Things To Do
  1. Work on articles that need cleanup.
  2. Create a page for every university and college and add {{infobox University}} for it. See the missing list for those institutions still awaiting articles.
  3. Place {{WikiProject Higher education}} on every related talk page.
  4. Combat boosterism wherever it appears
  5. Ensure all articles, including Featured articles, are consistent with the article guidelines.

WikiProject Higher education aims to improve the coverage of universities and colleges on Wikipedia. Please feel free to join our project by adding your name at the List of participants and including this page on your watchlist.

About the project

Goals

  • Standardize the structure and content of all college and university articles
  • Represent the interests of colleges and universities and ensure their articles' compliance with Wikipedia's five pillars
  • Improve the coverage of university articles, propelling them to featured article status
  • Serve as the central resource for all discussions and information related to colleges and universities

Task forces and sub-projects

Task forces are meant to provide centralized information and a discussion area for topics that have a sufficiently large scope, but that would not benefit from having a separate WikiProject with all of the additional work that would involve. Currently, the only task force is Student Affairs task force.

Geographic areas, athletic conferences, or individual institutions with multiple pages and the interest of several active Wikipedians may become the subject of a sub-project. Propose the new project on the WikiProject Higher education talk page or at the WikiProject Council to make sure there is enough interest before starting a new project. See the related projects section for examples.

National differences

University and college systems vary to a great degree between different countries. Here are some good practice-adaptations of WikiProject Higher education for different countries:

For United States institutions, the Department of Education presents data at its College Navigator. You can link to a college's page by finding its IPEDS ID at nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator (not the OPE ID) and using the following template.

{{College-navigator|<id>}}

For example, Valparaiso University's ID is 152600. Therefore, this template produces

Valparaiso University at College Navigator, a tool from the National Center for Education Statistics

You can use an optional second parameter to specify a name other than the title of the Wikipedia page that calls the template.

{{College-navigator|152600|Valparaiso University (Indiana)}}

produces:

Valparaiso University (Indiana) at College Navigator, a tool from the National Center for Education Statistics
