Suryadeo Singh (27 December 1939 – 15 June 1991) was an Indian politician and union leader from Jharkhand. He was a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Jharia constituency between 1977 and 1991. He was the founder and chairman of Janta Majdoor Sangh, a trade union in Jharkhand.

Career

The coal people of Dhanbad remember Suryadeo Singh as a Robin Hood. In Dhanbad when a situation got out of police control, then every eye saw Suryadeo Singh as their last hope.

Suryadeo Singh was known as a coal king of north India. The trade union Janta Majdoor Sangh is an active and influential union in Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).

Personal life

Singh Mansion

Suryadeo Singh built a house in Saraydhela named Singh Mansion. It became known as the political power centre of Dhanbad. The Jharia assembly seat is known as Singh mansion's workplace. Singh Mansion also became the coal center of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. The legacy of Singh Mansion became the responsibility of his elder son Sanjeev Singh..

Politics

Many family members work in politics. Suryadeo Singh had five brothers. Four of them moved to Dhanbad, save for his eldest brother Vikram Singh, who refused to leave Ballia and was an MLA from that time of Dwaba. Another brother Bacha Singh was a cabinet minister in Babulal Marandi's government while another brother Ramadhar Singh was the district board president of Ballia. His wife Kunti Singh was an MLA of Jharia. His son Sanjeev Singh followed her as MLA. He was accused in the murder of his sibling Neeraj Singh, the former deputy mayor of Dhanbad. Ramadhir Singh's wife Indu Singh was the first mayor of Dhanbad city. His nephew Ekalavya Singh served as deputy mayor of Dhanbad. His son Siddhartha Gautam (Manish Singh) also seeks a career in politics. Suryadeo was famous as a friend of former prime minister Chandra Shekhar. Often Shekhar came to Singh Mansion for vacations or family functions. Rakesh Singh was block pramukh. Ashni Singh was president of Jila panchayat. In 2014 Jharkhand election Sanjeev Singh defeated the INC candidate and his own cousin Neeraj Singh by 32,000 votes for BJP.

Business

His son Siddharth Gautam directs three companies, Surya Highrise Private Limited, Surya Multicon Private limited and Sambhavi Fuel Commotrade Limited. Eklavya Singh is the director of Raghukul Infrastructure Private Limited. Nephew Abhishek Singh is the director of three companies, Raghukul Infrastructure Private Limited, Nerve Knock Theme Park Private Limited and Laxmi Homes Private Limited. Vikram Singh has businesses in natural resources and construction and is the owner of Vikram Gas and Vikrama Hotel.

Crime

His eldest son Rajeev Ranjan Singh tried to take the place of his father after the latter's death, but suddenly disappeared. Many criminal cases involve the family, including the Pramod Singh murder, Vinod Singh murder, Sanjay Singh murder and Congress leader Suresh Singh murder.

Suryadeo Singh died on 15 June 1991 in Ballia Uttar Pradesh due to heart disease.[1][2][3]
