Orphaned non-free image File:Minoru Toyoda Gold Medal.jpg

BYellowAdamSolo.jpg
Hey there, thanks for notifying my about the lack of description on the image BYellowAdamSolo.jpg I have added detailed description to the image, please post on my talk page if you believe that the image still lacks description. Or feel free to edit the description yourself :) Thanks
More detailed "problem" descriptions!
LittleBot just told me an image was missing it's "description or something else". The image had a description, so I guess it's missing something else? Or maybe the way it looks for a description doesn't work on this image?
In any event, the message is too vague to be useful unless it's actually missing a description. Is there no way to make these messages much more specific?
Maury Markowitz (talk) 15:55, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hey Maury, thanks for getting in touch, and sorry for my belated reply (I was on vacation). The template that the bot substitutes can be found at Template:Description missing. In your case, the image was missing author information--however, I agree that the template should ideally be more detailed, but I'm not sure of the best implementation of that. I'll add this to my todo list, though! Happy editing, Theopolisme (talk) 20:35, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Double notification
This bot gave me the same notification twice. Once here, and once here. You may want to look into that. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 19:09, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- @Headbomb: This is actually intentional; the bot will notify users every 15 days (if I remember correctly...in any case, around that number). If you'd prefer not to be notified, you can follow the instructions at User:Theo's Little Bot/opt-out. Cheers, Theopolisme (talk) 23:35, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- It seems rather spammy to me. I'm not particularly concerned about myself here, but if you have an inactive user, you'll end up with 24-25 notices per year for each file. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 14:01, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- @Headbomb: The bot only notifies users if they don't have a notification on their talk page already. The idea is, if they're inactive, the notification would not be archived, so they wouldn't receive another one. Theopolisme (talk) 16:24, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Problem edit
Hi, there appears to be a problem with this edit which changes the link destination to the page the link now redirects to. This is incorrect as it looses the actual destination of the link which is required in order to solve the dead link situation. Keith D (talk) 10:59, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Keith, thanks for letting me know. The website itself (tottenhamhotspur.com) appears to return misleading HTTP status codes—for example, when I browsed to the URL that the bot "messed up," the website returned HTTP 200, which basically means "everything's a-okay," and gave no indication that the page had been redirected. So, when the bot thought it was getting the canonical url of the original link, it was actually getting the canonical url of where it had been redirected, without even knowing that it had been redirected (since the website gave no indication of that), which was obviously the wrong behavior. This seems like an edge case, though (a combination of canonical urls and bad web development), so I'm actually at a bit of a loss for how to handle this (and, furthermore, if there's even anything I can really handle). Nonetheless, thanks for reporting it, Theopolisme (talk) 15:10, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
COI
I see that the bot now adds a COI tag to some talk pages, as it did here, although I can't find it on the list of tasks. No explanation was given and no obvious sign of COI, so I'm wonder if this is intended for all articles. These types of mass change jam up watchlists for a while. -AndrewDressel (talk) 12:57, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Andrew, sorry for the confusion. That edit was part of the trial for Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval/Theo's_Little_Bot_26, which is currently pending. Your feedback there is welcome. Thanks! Theopolisme (talk) 21:42, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- It appears I'm not the only one confused by COI tags being inserted for no apparent reason. here's another one. This seems like a bad idea. Where do I say so? -AndrewDressel (talk) 01:05, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Kylie minogue its no secret 15.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Kylie minogue its no secret 15.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. An interesting bot situation
Howdy. I was manually reducing the dimensions on some non free files when I came across this image. It appears that your bot left some interesting text on the page before it moved on. I've cleaned it up a bit. It isn't a big deal, but I figured you might want to know.--Rockfang (talk) 05:26, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Rockfang, it looks like the problem occurred because someone substituted
{{non-free reduce}}
as opposed to just transcluding it, which confused the bot. Thanks for fixing it! Theopolisme (talk) 12:05, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Battle of the bots
I was stalking the history of my old pal Yintan's talk page, and noticed Theo's Little Bot and ClueBot III have apparently been edit warring over the past month... TheoBot repeatedly adding the same better source request notice, and ClueBot III archiving it. I'm guessing TheoBot is checking the visible talk page and not the history to see if the user has been notified? FYI unfortunately Yintan has retired, so highly doubtful he'll find a better source for the image. — MusikAnimal talk 01:28, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry about that -- [1] did it. Theopolisme (talk) 16:38, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- No problem, I think the white flag has been flown. I have to ask, does TheoBot always restore blanked notifications? I don't see a "better source request" listed at WP:UP#CMT as a type of notice prohibited to be removed or archived by the user. If the notice does not qualify, continuing to notify the user would indeed be tantamount to edit warring, from what I understand, and such issue with the bot should probably be addressed. Cheers — MusikAnimal talk 16:54, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- Well, the problem is that the bot has no easy way to track whether or not it's already notified a user about a specific file (currently it searches the talk page for the bsr template as well as checks a temporary log). Theoretically adding some sort of permanent database to track notifications would make sense, but unfortunately I just don't have the time currently.. Theopolisme (talk) 22:51, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Is it possible to opt out of Task 1 for a particular image?
Re your Task 1 reduction of File:National Pie Day 2014 poster.jpg (diff) I'd like to claim exemption on the grounds of 1) can't read the text in the image in the smaller version, which matters and 2) its a promotional item so we don't need to be as strict as usual. Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Rotten Tomatoes score/tt1535108
A tag has been placed on Template:Rotten Tomatoes score/tt1535108 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. — {{U|Technical 13}} (t • e • c) 19:47, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Bot not following userspace redirects
See user talk:GiacomoReturned - 16 or so edits that should have gone to the talk page of the user's current name that have instead been left on the talk page of the name under which he uploaded the image. Perhaps a line of code could be added to follow the redirect, otherwise such messages may well be missed. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 13:39, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- @Theopolisme: Yo, Theo, I guess it's because of this issue, but TLB just nuked Giano's current talk page and replaced it with GiacomoReturned's (including a circular redirect at the top); perhaps the bug fix made a new bug? :) Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 04:58, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Huh, that's weird. If I had to guess it's probably something to do with the regex matching... I've disabled the bot until I have a chance to figure out what's going on. Size
After an image has bee reduced in size from 405 x 440 to 302 × 330 - arguably in unsatisfactory quality, the WP's built in resizer seemingly does a better job (it is activated by viewing the pic and pit "nnnpx-" in front of the output imnage) - are there any written guidelines what constitutes a suitable resolution for non-free logos? What are the underlying working principles of the bot? Please, kindly ping me {{ping|OAlexander}} with your reply. Cheers, OAlexander (talk) 13:04, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
- @OAlexander: Wikipedia:Non-free_images#Image_resolution includes the formula which the bot implements -- obviously, there will always be edge cases, which is why humans work in the area too. :) Thanks for the message! Theopolisme (talk) 16:57, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Image reduced to unreadable size
The image "RCAF Guelph Sparks Magazine Page 1.jpg" was reduced in size to unreadable condition. Username conversion
Two of my older images (1, 2) had the modern Information template added by your bot. Generally the information extracted looked OK. I do have have one nit to pick. The Author name generated has an underscore instead of the space character. While this is functional with the way Wikipedia handles the URLs, it is less that esthetically pleasing. Please update the bot to get this right. --J Clear (talk) 12:54, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
- After looking a bit closer at the actual wiki code inserted, the bot appears to add additional blank lines near the end of the |description. The first image cited above, has three blank lines at the end, and two blank lines above the last para. Both were single blank lines in the original. I would think you'd want to trim the trailing blank lines entirely, given it's going in a template. And not expand the interior blank lines. --J Clear (talk) 13:13, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
Is task 1 active and opt out?
Hi @Theopolisme:. Thanks for writing a great bot! Is task 1 running at the moment? There seem to be quite a few things in the queue that have been waiting for a while - for example File:"Pierre"_by_Stephen_Scott_Young.jpg (I'm not sure if 5 weeks wait is abnormal).
Also, is there a specific opt out for particular images that the bot might reduced too far? Presumably that's {{bots|deny=Theo's_Little_Bot}}?--Otus scops (talk) 13:41, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. That does seem rather abnormal. I haven't touched the code related to task 1 for quite some time... I'll attempt to take a look later today or tomorrow, though. Theopolisme (talk) 14:51, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
- The bot doesn't always seem to work properly. I occasionally notice that the bot reduces a file tagged for reduction several weeks or months earlier (and not touched since then), so something is definitely wrong. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:40, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
The bot made a mess
... of Giano's talk page with this edit. I've restored the previous version as Giano is away on holiday. Out of Time official single cover
Hi. Not to be rude or offensive about this, but the image you uploaded is NOT official. It is only an STP logo since 2010 for "Out of Time". Please upload a different cover for the article, and if you go to its talk page, I've given out two links, which is proven for official use only. Thank you, and very sorry for bothering you. Skylar3214 2:14, 11 July 2014
- Pleas upload the right cover, or if you don't, I will send you a few links that's officially proven by its use only. Skylar3214 1:09, 12 July 2014
- Then, you leave me no choice for not complying with me. I've waited a few days for you to do it, but there was no reply back from you, so you've tried my patience. Here's the link that has the official cover for its proven use only: https://lh4.ggpht.com/FuCnAIJ7jsGLe9nmeF3kBpXKY8krdARrv_A9Do6jPhFPhMFJ169Gr8dqlJ_Zv1E6RUu1Ndtt Skylar3214 12:48, 13 July 2014
- And the source you provided, such as AllMusic.com, for the uploaded image has only the STP logo on it, not the official single cover that's being currently used in the article that I uploaded for "Out of Time". So clearly, that source is a mistake. Skylar3214 11:56, 27 July 2014

Non-free image File:1929 William Bennett, Labour.jpg
The copyright owner of this image, photographer w:en:James Lafayette (1853-1923) died over 90 years ago. This would seem to make the photograph eligible for a {{PD-old-70}} licence. If not, why not? Mike Hayes (talk) 02:58, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Oldid parameters for Template:Former TAFI?
User:Theopolisme, can you change your bot to add them? I think the best way would be to slap {{Former TAFI|oldid1={{subst:REVISIONID:{{subst:SUBJECTPAGENAME}}}}}}

tag, and then just add |oldid2=
when removing it. — Keφr 06:39, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
File:CrissAngelBeLIEveTVcard.jpg
I have tagged File:CrissAngelBeLIEveTVcard.jpg as being an orphaned non-free file. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. Otherwise, it will be deleted in seven days. ww2censor (talk) 09:34, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
- User:Ww2censor: When you tag a file as orphaned, you should notify the original uploader, not the bot which reduced the file to satisfy WP:NFCC#3b. The original uploader is the user who created the first textual revision of the file information page. --Stefan2 (talk) 15:33, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Bots
You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.
What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.
This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.
If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/enwiki/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!
- The simple solution is to simply include the "rawcontinue" parameter with your request to continue receiving the raw continuation data (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/enwiki/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&rawcontinue=1>). No other code changes should be necessary.
- Or you could update your code to use the simplified continuation documented at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Query#Continuing_queries (example <https://www.mediawiki.org/enwiki/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages&continue=>), which is much easier for clients to implement correctly.
Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.
Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.
Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Indian Idol.JPG
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on File:Indian Idol.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from former logo no longer used to identify the subject. The logo is not subject of any third party analysis or commentary. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:41, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Wild-zee-logo.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Wild-zee-logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Marchjuly (talk) 05:36, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
Error from your part on the File:Siouxsie Christine.jpg
You have made a big mistake : the version that had to be reduced, was the one posted yesterday here with good colors. Instead, you reduced the size of the old first version with bad quality colors.
And same remark for this other file this is the one to reduce. Instead you put back online a smaller version of a worn sleeve with a big flaw. Carliertwo (talk) 19:57, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
Re-sizing to agressive
The resize bot decreases image size quite aggressively, and also quite lossily. An image at 400 px wide is decreased to 273, which is lower than what is used in articles. Is it possible to put the cut-off point at 300px and to make sure most quality is kept. Currently the bot adds compression on top of compression and produces artifacts. File permission problem with File:Dilwale1.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Dilwale1.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Arjann (talk) 07:52, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Suggestions for Task 22 Rotten Tomatoes score
I noticed the {{Rotten Tomatoes score/0181852}} leads to a date format error on Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. I have fixed the issue in the template, and found that a padding zero of the day value in {{{accessdate}}}
should be avoided, as stated in MOS:BADDATEFORMAT (see also Help:CS1_errors#bad_date). Furthermore, the if condition of {{{mdy}}}
could be put after "accessdate=", so that the whole reference does not need to repeat. Please see the history of {{Rotten Tomatoes score/0181852}} for how I fixed it.--Quest for Truth (talk) 15:47, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

File reduction
Hi Theo. I was wondering if you could have a look at the bot when you have time, as there's over 300 images tagged for non-free reduce, some of them for a couple of weeks with no obvious reason why they have not been done. Thank you! -- Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:45, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- A lot of files were apparently reduced today, and the backlog is now down to 179, but that's still a lot which hasn't been reduced. --Stefan2 (talk) 11:04, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- User:Diannaa, any suggestion on what to do? The same problem has occurred in the past, and when I've tried asking the bot operator for assistance, I have not always got a reply: 1 2 3. Since the bot reduces a couple of files every day, I guess that the bot starts but that one file in the category causes the bot to crash for whatever reason, and then the bot stops and leaves the remaining files unprocessed. In that case, how can we find that problem file? --Stefan2 (talk) 23:28, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- No idea why it stops or how it works. Theo has not edited since August, and I have no way of knowing whether or not he sees our messages. -- Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:06, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
- Stefan2: Todayt it appears to have only reduced the ones that were freshly tagged. -- Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 15:19, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
- It's annoying that we don't get any response from the bot operator. If a file in the category causes the bot to crash, then it should be trivial for the operator to find that file. --Stefan2 (talk) 17:18, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
- The link at the top of this page suggests reporting problems at GitHub. Do you have a GitHub account? -- Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:17, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Eurovision 2016 Logo
Why did you reduce the size of the logo? I referred that it is non-free. Its probable copyright holder is EBU. I upload this image when the high quality logos from the Eurovision site (www.eurovision.tv/pages/press) were revealed, in order readers can see it clearly. Please, revert the picture to its original size. Dimsar01 (talk) 20:15, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Dimsar01: It was reduced per Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria, specifically Policy > Minimal Usage > Minimal extent of use which states "Low- rather than high-resolution/fidelity/bit rate is used (especially where the original could be used for deliberate copyright infringement)." Hope that helps -- Cheers, Riley 07:53, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
Resizing screenshots?
Theo, could you set a filter so that screenshots with standard screen sizes (640x480, 800x600) are not processed by the bot?
This would avoid changes like the one at File:Windows 95 Desktop screenshot.png, which rendered the image unusable.
At least for those sizes below 1024x768, the resolution is low by today standards, so further reducing them is not required by non-free image policy.
Thanks Diego (talk) 09:58, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
- The article only uses 300×225 pixels, so apparently the person who included the file in the article thought that that pixel count is sufficient. Why do you think that a larger pixel count is needed on the file information page? The purpose of a non-free file is always to display the file in an article, whereas other features, such as viewing the file on its file information page, are secondary and don't need to be considered when determining the appropriate quality of the file. If the file is 'unusable' at the resolution in which it is used in the article, then the file is 'unusable' in the article and should be made 'usable' there instead. --Stefan2 (talk) 11:04, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
- I must vehemently agree with Diego, any computer screenshot reduced to your bot's ludicrous standards is worthless. Just look at the pic of Windows 10, for example... you can hardly tell what the damn system looks like! There is no point in reducing pictures to make them the size of a thumbnail. Hell, the point of a thumbnail is to be a clickable link to a bigger picture. --Stormwatch (talk) 09:27, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Stefan, for a start the size of images in an article is a user preference, so different users may see different sizes. Ditto if you print the article to text, which will use the resolution of the printer. Moreover, the expected way to see images in articles is to click on the image and see them in full screen in the media viewer; so the thumbnail size is not a good estimator of the 'usable' size of the image. Task 1
Task 1, the image resizer, is not working correctly. Recently, it is only re-sizing a few images per day, rather than all the images in Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests. This is leaving images needing re-sizing waiting, which is not normal for the bot to do. It also has not been re-sizing the way it used to, where it simply makes a smaller version of the same file. To see what I am talking about, look at File:Somebody-Told-Me.jpg and the version the bot uploaded.
Now, I would submit this as a ticket on GitHub, but seeing as how I don't have an account there, and I'd rather not make one. Elisfkc (talk) 15:13, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- This problem happens once in a while. See for example #File reduction and #Bot has stopped above. I suspect that some files cause the bot to crash and that the bot stops when it hits one of the files which can't be reduced, but I don't know how to find the file(s) which can't be reduced. Also, the bot operator is very inactive, and I'm not sure if he's reading this talk page. --Stefan2 (talk) 17:21, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Reduction issues
bsd. The reduction code used by this bot has some issue which leaves some outline artifacts, even on lossless PNG images. See this image (version by theo's bot), as compared to the one i uploaded. Also, file sizes (KB, not pixels) could be smaller.--Ben Stone 19:54, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
disclosing size reduction
Hello little bot :), it would be neat to show what is your image resizing target : since Template:Non-free_use_rationale#note-resolution doesn't specify what should be a low res, in effect it's the little bot which enforces it which determines what is low res enough. I saw in the code that its target is 0.1 Megapixel (316*316 if it's a square), isn't it? If so, I will size my uploads for that to avoid having deleted previous versions. I would add I suggest a whooping doubling of the target to 0.2 megapixels (447*447, +41% linear dimensions) : time advances, cameras have much finer sensors, internet tubes are much larger and displays are ultra high res. Having a 316*316 image on a (useless, granted) 800dpi 4K smartphone makes it 0.395 inches (10.0 mm) per side, not a thumbnail but a Little finger fingernail! --Marc Lacoste (talk) 16:50, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi! I already downsized this non-free image (as requested from the upload sheet) from Full HD down by a factor of 2.3 when uploading it. So could you please disable the bot on that image, as it will be way to small and pixelated then in the end?
Bot has stalled
Hi Theo. The bot is no longer reducing non-free images; it only did three in the last batch and seven the day before, but there's over 500 that are tagged. If you could have a look please that would be great. Sorry for not reporting via Github as directed; it says my username is taken but it my email "can't be found" so I have no way to log in. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 18:35, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

- Hi Theo, the bot's edits have tapered off to nothing. Is there any way you could find the time to get this working reliably again? I would also appreciate it if you could tell us what's the best way to contact you or report issues, as none of our talk page posts (or even the GitHub post) ever get a reply. Thank you, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:20, 11 December 2016 (UTC) (I have emailed a copy of this message as well.)
- @Diannaa: I emailed as well. Think we are looking at an inactive editor - view their last ever edit [2] Is there someone we could ask to take over the bot? I did look at the script, but I'm very rusty with Python. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:07, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- I think we should ask at WP:VPT to see if there's anyone who could take over operation of this bot. Would you mind doing that if you have a minute? — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 00:49, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Can someone guide me how to generate the wikiwork data? The bot seems to have stopped updating the data after July 2015. —IB [ Poke ] 05:37, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
Pinball cover image, etc.
Wouldn't it be good if the upload wizard could auto-reduce any fair use images? Or even prevent upload until manually reduced? Or at least warn the uploader it might be too large? Thanks. anyway. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:51, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

Theo's_Little_Bot Hi, It's reduced a page of scanned text, which was readable to something which is unreadable and useless. scope_creep (talk) 14:41, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
Malfunctioning: ignored 7 day wait
Your bot is malfunctioning. It deleted my File:Progression_of_Big_Boy_logos.png immediately after being tagged rather than after the seven day wait period for response. The larger graphic of non-free content is acceptable because it is a composition of smaller marks. The article will be modified. — βox73 (৳alk) 16:13, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Box73: There is no waiting period for files tagged, so the bot is not malfunctioning. {{Non-free reduce}} says
In most cases, this reduction will occur automatically: simply wait 24 hours and a robot will resize the image file.
Also, the bot does not delete anything. — JJMC89 (T·C) 17:02, 30 January 2017 (UTC)- 24 hours! This happened before 7 hours passed. Further, that's not what how the template displays; it says seven days. How about fixing the template.
- Automatically resizing images to odd percentages (like TLB) creates poor quality results. Further, this image is a composition of smaller marks, most not in use. The size of the individual marks was not considered. (Trust me, Big Boy would aggressively protest potential misuse.) No good faith consideration was given to either issue. — βox73 (৳alk) 18:53, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Permission to use figure in a book.
Dear Theo's Little Bot,
I am working with Prof. Steven LaValle to help obtain permissions for borrowing figures or pictures in his upcoming book Virtual Reality, to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is online here:
We are hoping to include the picture of yours (https:/upwiki/wikipedia/en/a/a8/The_Dress_%28viral_phenomenon%29.png) in this book (Chapter 6, Figure 20 ). Could we please have your permission for this? Thank you.
Please contact me at (Redacted)
Sincerely,
Adam Warkoczewski

Bad image reduction of musical score
Just to let TLB's handler(s) know, the file File:Linear counterpoint from Stravinsky's Octet.png, depicting an excerpt of a musical score, has been rendered almost illegible by TLB's reduction algorithm. I'm assuming the bot edited this image because it's marked as copyright (it was published in 1923, which means it's still within the 95-year copyright in the US despite being public domain elsewhere).
Not blaming the bot for following orders (in fact it's the fault of whoever uploaded a musical score as a PNG not an SVG!) 86.130.177.151 (talk) 15:33, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Reducing the size of images on the kruppel-like factors page.
Hi Theo,
Please do not reduce the file size of "KLF4props2.png", and "Major pathways KLF4 3.png" again on the kruppel-like factors page. I drew these images following non-free images, but since I redrew them they are entirely my work, even if they look similar to the originals.
Thanks you,

Bot currently reducing images by less than 3.5%
Theo, your bot is currently reducing images by less than 3.5% (linear). Does this serve any useful purpose, other than degrading the detailed image quality?
Time to stop now (at least on pre-existing images). Your bot's work is done. Jheald (talk) 11:46, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
- Just came here to report the same thing. Is there anywhere the new size requirement is described? Or were the edits made by a previous bot (DashBOT) incorrect?--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 10:41, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- According to the bot’s page User: Theo's Little Bot the image reducing task, task 1, is currently disabled.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 10:45, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
Reenabled by Ronhjones; Xaosflux also disabled it. Seems to be enabled when DatBot is down? Galobtter (pingó mió) 11:11, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- DatBot does keep stalling, DatGuy is looking into it. Both bots use (more or less) the same code and remove the ((tl|non-free reduce)) banner if the reduction is less than 5%. No idea who set 5% up as the permitted allowance - must have been back when the guideline was set in 2011, and I was not active in that area at that time. If any image is badly changed, then do ask me to check, we can either add {{non-free no reduce}} or maybe a small crop of unneeded space (I've done a few of those for the better). Ronhjones (Talk) 15:44, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- That does not explain what I am seeing, which is an image being reduced by a trivial amount (3%, not 5%), as it had already been reduced by a bot. It surely does not need reducing twice, the main effect of it is worse compression artefacts. Is there no central guideline on image size both bots should be following, making repeated reductions unnecessary?--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 15:52, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- File:Blueberry Girl Cover.jpg was reduced by ~5.47%. — JJMC89 (T·C) 17:54, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, so by pixels not by linear dimension (which is what is normally used here to measure images). Still, 3% or 5%, it had already been reduced by a bot once. Was the size requirement changed so all images now have to be resized to a new smaller size? If not the bot could surely check if the image had already been reduced, from its history, so not redo the same task.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 19:13, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- WP:IMAGERES is based on pixels. The bot reduces when the image is tagged with {{non-free reduce}}. The tagging editor should check the file history. — JJMC89 (T·C) 19:42, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

- Interesting contrast between the above and the discussion when guidance on image size was first added to WP:NFC. (
"my suggestion is to advise that aiming for images no larger than 0.1 MP is not going to trip anyone's red flag as to what is "low resolution". That's not to say a 0.2 MP is improper, or the like, but when you start getting up much higher than, you'd better have good reason."
) The 0.1 Mpx figure was originally added with the intention that it was only to be a very very rough guide. The proper approach on this is now also being discussed in a current thread at WT:NFC. Jheald (talk) 12:39, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:AFL-CIO.png
Thanks for uploading File:AFL-CIO.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Storybox703 (talk) 17:56, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
File:Eighth_Doctor_(Doctor_Who).jpg
I have tagged File:Eighth_Doctor_(Doctor_Who).jpg as being an orphaned non-free file. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. Otherwise, it will be deleted in seven days. — fourthords | =Λ= | 21:29, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Your bot stripped off the file source of File:Pennsylvania 2017 license plate.jpg. I was informed of this yesterday, and I have now fixed this. Greek football clubs emblems
Hello friend. How are you?
Do you know how to put in english wikipedia the emblems of these teams as they are in greek wikipedia, in high quality? I did it, but they asked me to reduce it and I didn't know how to do it. As you can see the emblems of these teams in english wikipedia are in quality carpets because they have changed their size. Can you fix it like they are in greek wikipedia?
