Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruption and vandalism on a recent disaster article. United States Man (talk) 22:57, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. I'm not seeing enough problematic editing right now. I also note that the article is being watched by multiple experienced editors including admins. If things start going down hill come back. Ad Orientem (talk) 00:40, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Repeated vandalism to mostly the cast sections, including people who were not in the movies. KyoufuNoDaiou (talk) 00:44, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Declined @KyoufuNoDaiou: I blocked two IPs (37.213.187.138 + 37.213.45.210) for two weeks as they were making nonsense changes. Please notify me if problems continue. It would help if you would put
{{subst:uw-vandalism3|TITLE_OF_ARTICLE}} ~~~~
on the talk page of any editor making changes like that, preferably with a brief explanation somewhere so the problem could be understood by those unfamiliar with the topic. Johnuniq (talk) 01:11, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Move protection was never really needed because there is no history of bad moves. Unprotection is needed because the page should be (uncontroversially) moved to match the sentence case of the other Merseyrail/Merseytravel and also to follow how Transport for London underground and overground lines are named. 10mmsocket (talk) 11:10, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Pinging @Redrose64, who originally protected the page. --Ahecht (TALK
PAGE) 17:47, 16 December 2024 (UTC) - Uncontroversial page moves may be requested at WP:RM/TR. — Malcolmxl5 (talk) 13:30, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Unprotection: The amount of IP disruption to this article wasn't very significant when it was protected; the single user on one range was not enough for protection. CutlassCiera 02:00, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
Reduction in protection level: unprotected There hasn't been an edit on this page since February 7th. His page has not had any vandalism for months, therefore it should be made unprotected- we don't want pages protected if it isn't necessary. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor940 (talk • contribs)
- Courtesy ping Eagles247 as the last protecting admin. -Ad Orientem (talk) 03:19, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- Note: There seems to be some history between the requester here and protecting Admin. Michael Greiner 03:47, 13 April 2020 (UTC
- I don't believe unprotecting this page makes sense, if there isn't vandalism during the protection that means the protection is working. The page was left unprotected for two and a half days in January and saw four instances of vandalism. Eagles 24/7 (C) 11:58, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Reduction in protection level: semi-protected There hasn't been an edit on this page since March. Furthermore, not even Tom Brady or Lebron James have extended protected and very little vandalism, if any, occurs. We want Wikipedia as open to the public for editing as possible and this just simply isn't justified and totally unnecessary. Therefore, this definitely should be reduced to semi-protection. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Editor940 (talk • contribs) 23:27, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
- Declined Protection expires on 22 April 2020 and I don't see the need to second-guess the admin who placed that protection. If any other admin wants to change it, feel free. Johnuniq (talk) 01:15, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Change 16,000 civilians (May 2024)[43] to 16,000 civilians (May 2024)[42]
Source 42 has these numbers and source 43 doesn't Alderman pained dios finnish (talk) 18:48, 15 December 2024 (UTC)
- The place to request this edit is Template talk:Israel–Hamas war infobox. I will note that while the VOA article does seem to have the civilian death toll in May, it does not have the November death toll (as it was written in May) Cmrc23 ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ 16:28, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason. It looks like this: Wikipedia:Example (edit | [[Talk:Wikipedia:Example|talk]] | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) your request here. ~~~~
