Possible Hoax
There is almost no biographical information about Hernandez besides the alleged invention of hand sanitizer. Every article on the subject references this article from 2012 which itself is unsourced. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2012/may/13/do-we-really-need-hand-sanitisers It is possible that she does not really exist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Irish Birdcatcher (talk • contribs) 23:35, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
This article from the Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/the-power-of-purell-compels-you/2020/03/26/41243960-6dde-11ea-b148-e4ce3fbd85b5_story.html is further evidence, in the section about Hernandez it mentions that all information about her traces back to that Guardian article. The author of that article does not recall where she learned about Hernandez. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Irish Birdcatcher (talk • contribs) 23:40, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
There is an Answers.com question for October 19, 2012 [1], which is several months after The Guardian article came out, asking "is Lupe H Hernandez inventor of hand sanitizer still alive?" Someone claiming to be Lupe Hernadez answered this question as yes and that Lupe Hernandez was a male, then goes through a simple version of the story.
