Cecil Maguire

Cecil Maguire (1929/1930 – 8 May 2020) was an Irish landscape and figure painter. His work features in major collections including at the UN headquarters in New York and the Ulster Museum in Belfast.[1]
Maguire was born in Lurgan, County Armagh.[2] He graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 1951 and took up an English teaching post in Lurgan College.
He became a member of the Royal Ulster Academy in 1974. The academy awarded him the RUA Gold Medal in 1974 and the RUA Perpetual Gold Medal in 1993.[citation needed] In 1981, he retired from teaching to concentrate on painting and travelling.[1] He spent a great part of each year in Roundstone, Connemara.[3]
