Discretionary sanctions alerts, please read

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did on Rosie Winterton. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:42, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't follow. The source for the category literally comes from here, the same way the LFI category comes from here.
References need to be cited in the body of the article, not merely in an edit summary. What use is that to the casual reader? How can they be expected to check the page history, in case an editor left a link to a source in one of their edit summaries? You've edited here for nearly nine years, you really ought to have developed an understanding of how to reference content by now. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:56, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain...

In this edit you rewrote working references, in violation of the well understood principle "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Why? Geo Swan (talk) 05:25, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Eric Clapton singles discography, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hyde Park (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Your draft article, Draft:1985 BRIT Awards

Hello, Unreal7. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "1985 BRIT Awards".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. CptViraj (Talk) 07:35, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Unreal7! Family members of people with articles on Wikipedia have a certain right to privacy.' As per WP:BLPNAME: When the name of a private individual has not been widely disseminated or has been intentionally concealed, [...] it is often preferable to omit it [...] Consider whether the inclusion of names of living private individuals who are not directly involved in an article's topic adds significant value. And as per WP:BLPPRIVACY: Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources [...] If [...] the person is borderline notable, err on the side of caution and simply list the year, provided that there is a reliable source for it.. A son yes, maybe even the year of birth, but anything more isn't well published and shouldn't be included as it adds nothing of significant value: a child is not even "borderline notable". Best-selling singles of the 2000s in the UK

Hi – I'm not sure I agree with the edits you've made at List of best-selling singles of the 2000s (decade) in the United Kingdom... the reason being that the OCC's recent list appears to include sales to date, i.e. up to 2019, when the original list was meant to be for sales between 2000 and 2009. Richard3120 (talk) 18:12, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Only sales from 2000 to 2009. Crazy and Poker Face are listed as below 1 million, despite being million-sellers now. Unreal7 (talk) 18:45, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough then. But does it say so in the book? Because it really isn't clear at all from the OCC article... it talks about "Crazy" having 977,000 "now". And it says eleven million-sellers originated from that decade, but Lady Gaga's two singles at nos. 16 and 22 are also million-sellers... but surely they also originated in that decade? Richard3120 (talk) 18:49, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Poker Face was 2010 and Bad Romance was 2013. Unreal7 (talk) 20:55, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually thinking "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", which were both 2008. But never mind, you're right about it just being sales from within that decade, although the journalism in that article is really poor and confusing. Richard3120 (talk) 21:33, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. They both hit a million in the 2010s (both released in the UK in 2009) and Just Dance isn't quite there yet. Unreal7 (talk) 22:17, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:13, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:CLP deputy nominations.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:CLP deputy nominations.jpeg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 01:35, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
