Viewster was a global video on demand service that was founded in 2007 and has its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. Viewster offers a wide range of ad-supported free TV shows and movies.[1]

History

Viewster AG was founded in 2007 by Kai Henniges and Jörg Boksberger in Zurich (Switzerland). Today Viewster has offices in Zurich, London, New York City, Berlin, Adelaide. In 2011 the service was renamed from "Diva“ to "Viewster."[2]

Viewster's Video on demand service was available in more than 120 countries. According to third party audits, Viewster reaches more than 39 million unique visitors per month [3] and ranked top 10 online video property in the U.S. in August 2014.[4]

On February 5, 2019, Viewster was acquired by distributor Cinedigm.[5]

On June 8, 2020, Cinedigm announced that it will rebrand Viewster as CONtv Anime.[6]

Content

Movies

Viewster licensed a collection of more than 12,000 titles. These include anime, documentary film, classics, comedy and independent films from many countries around the world. The number of available titles may vary from country to country due to nation-specific contracts with content owners.

TV shows

Viewster had a broad range of TV shows in many countries. These include various anime series, some of them as simulcasts in European countries, Korean drama and Brit Shows, such as The Inbetweeners, Peep Show, Shameless and many more.[7]

Device support

To view movies on Viewster, a Broadband access is recommended due to high data volumes. On the website, it is recommended to use a broadband connection with a minimum speed of 4Mb.[8]

Internet

Movies and TV shows could be streamed worldwide via the website www.viewster.com.

iOS and Android

In October 2012, Viewster released native iOS and Android applications to make the Video on demand service available on tablets and smartphones.[9]

TV

Viewster is available on many Smart TVs, either pre-installed or available in the particular app store.

Gaming Consoles

Viewster was available to download from the Xbox Live Marketplace for Xbox 360 users.
