This page has tools for finding, assessing, and improving articles within the scope of WP:LGBT.

Working with new articles

Creating articles

At WP:Requested articles, people can suggest topics for new articles. Creating an article will require research to determine if there is significant coverage in reliable sources. See WP:Notability, including the general notability guideline, for more information.

Project-tagging

Newly created articles that deal with LGBT topics should have the WP:LGBT project banner added to the talk page.

  • If you are unsure whether an article should added to the project, raise it for discussion at WT:LGBT. WikiProjects define their own scopes (WP:PROJSCOPE), so whether a project should be added or not is based on the consensus of active members rather than any detailed criteria.
  • New articles containing LGBT keywords is an automatically generated report that displays recently created articles containing "LGBT", "lesbian", "gay", "bisexual", "transgender", or related terms. These articles may be within the project's scope.

Improving navigation

There are several ways to make it easier for readers to find new articles.

  • New articles should be placed in appropriate LGBT categories, to group related topics together. See WP:CAT for more. WP:BLPCAT and WP:EGRS provide important guidance on categorizing articles about people.
  • Navigational templates for LGBT topics can be added to articles, creating links between all articles with the template.
  • New and expanded articles can be submitted to WP:Did you know, and if selected will be featured on the Main Page.

Assessing articles

Assessing article quality helps WP:LGBT members to recognize excellent contributions and identify topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0 program, which the WikiProject uses to help automate some of the assessing process.

  • When the {{LGBTProject}} banner is added to an article without an assessment parameter specified, the article will be placed in Category:Unassessed LGBT articles.
  • Once an editor has assessed the article and completed the assessment parameter, the article will be added to the appropriate sub-category of Category:LGBT articles by quality. These categories are used to generate reports like the quality table in this section.
  • The LGBT articles by quality log lists articles that have been assessed, reassessed, moved, or removed from the project's scope in the past week.

Improving articles

There are several ways to find articles for improvement.

  • Use the quality table to pick an article from one class and work to get it to a higher class.
  • WP:LGBT Core topics lists articles that are of fundamental importance to WP:LGBT's mandate.
  • Cleanup listing for WikiProject LGBT studies reports on articles that have issues flagged, such as needing additional sources.
  • Popular pages lists the 500 highest traffic articles within WP:LGBT.

The LGBT WikiProject peer reviews articles on request. This is to encourage better articles by having other contributors provide ideas for improvement. The process is highly flexible and can deal with articles of any quality. This process is not an academic peer review by a group of experts in a particular subject, and articles that undergo this process should not be assumed to have greater authority than any other.
