Early life

Winwin was born on 28 October 1997, in Wenzhou, Zhejiang. He majored in traditional Chinese dance at the Beijing Dance Academy, and went on to study at the Central Academy of Drama.

Career

Pre-Debut

Winwin was first scouted by SM Entertainment, a South Korean entertainment agency, in 2013, subsequently becoming a trainee in 2015. On 5 January 2016, he was introduced as a member of SM Rookies,[1] a pre-debut training team composed of young trainees who would potentially debut as idol group members. On 9 April 2016, he made his appearance on both the Korean and Chinese version of NCT U's debut music video, "Without You".[2] In May of the same year, he also participated in the second season of the group's variety show NCT Life.[3]

2016–present: Debut with NCT 127, WayV and solo activities

On 7 July 2016, Winwin made his debut as part of South Korean boy group NCT 127 with their first EP NCT #127, and the title track "Fire truck".[4] The group is a sub-unit of SM Entertainment's expansive boy group NCT. He then debuted as part of the sub-unit NCT U with title track "Boss" on February 8, 2018[5]. The track was released as part of NCT's first solo album, NCT 2018 Empathy, where he also participated in the track "Black on Black" as part of NCT 2018[6]. WinWin continued to promote with NCT 127 until the end of 2018. It was then announced that he would be on indefinite hiatus from the group's promotions to prepare for his debut in China.[7]

Winwin made his Chinese debut as part of Chinese boy group WayV on 17 January 2019,[8] with lead single "Regular" off their first single album The Vision. Winwin had previously also participated in the English and Korean versions of the song as part of NCT 127 the previous year.

In March of 2019, he joined the cast of Chinese variety show My Brilliant Masters.[9] He has made appearances on several other Chinese variety shows such as Day Day Up and Happy Camp, as well as Korean variety shows such as South Korean Foreigners.
