Stewart Raffill
Director
Raffill is an award-winning writer/director/novelist. He wrote the original screenplay for Passenger 57 that sparked a bidding war and placed number one at the box office. As writer and director of The New Swiss Family Robinson he had another hit when it placed number in its time slot on Disney/ABC. Raffill has worked in many genres including action, sci-fi, comedy, and mystery.
Raffill is credited as writer and producer on the Disney Film Napoleon and Samantha starring Jodie Foster and Michael Douglas.[1]
He wrote and directed When the North Wind Blows (1974) and the Wonder of It All (1974).
Raffill wrote and directed The Adventures of the Wilderness Family (1975) with Robert Logan which was a popular success, leading to two sequels, and established Raffill as a maker of family adventure films with animals.[2] It was quoted in Variety as one of the Top 50 Independent Grossing Films of All Times.
He followed it with two films with Logan, Across the Great Divide (1976) and The Sea Gypsies (1978).
Raffill wrote and directed High Risk starring James Brolin, which he later describes as a personal favorite.[3] The film was not widely distributed but it got him the job of writing and directing the sci-fi film The Ice Pirates (made for John Forman and David Begelman at MGM on a budget of $8 million.[4]
Raffill directed and did uncredited writing on The Philadelphia Experiment.[5]
Raffill directed and wrote Mac and Me which became a cult favorite and was re-released in 2019. [6] [7]
Begelmen hired Raffill as a director only on Mannequin: On the Move (1991).
Television
Raffill has directed TV with The New Adventures of Robin Hood, Eighteen Wheels of Justice and Pensacola Wings of Gold.
Raffill directed episodes of Pensacola: Wings of Gold and 18 Wheels of Justice, and the movies A Month of Sundays (2001), Survival Island (2005), Croc (2007), Mysterious (2010).
Novels
In 2018, Raffill's debut novel, Rage, was published.
