User:Joanne.nathan/sandbox Bobby Nathan is an American musician, songwriter, recording engineer, recording studio owner, record producer, musician, band leader, columnist, author, educator, and software designer of electronic music plug-ins that use digital signal processing to simulate traditional recording studio hardware in software.[1][2] Nathan became a Digidesign authorized third party software designer and debuted the URS Classic Console EQ Bundle in October 2003 at the Audio Engineering Society Convention in New York City. [3]The URS Classic Console EQ Bundle was the first software plug-in emulations of classic recording console EQ sections[4] for all the Macintosh computer macOS digital audio workstation formats including:

Digidesign's ProTools digital audio workstation, in TDM and RTAS native plug-in formats,

Logic Audio digital audio workstation (DAW) and MIDI sequencer software application in Audio Units(AU) native plug-in format and

Cubase in Virtual Studio Technology(VST) plug-in format.

Songwriter

In 1969, while taking classes at Manhattan community college, Bobby Nathan co wrote the song Oh Alaina,(Black Sheep of My Mind) as Robert Nathan[5] with Carole Bayer Sager.[6]. Nathan would meet Sager at Colgems Records publishing on Fifth Ave and write in the writers rooms, while Sager was working as a staff writer there. Al Altmman[7] head of Colgems Records A&R felt the song was a Bubblegum music hit. The original demo was recorded by Bill Szymczyk at Bob Lifton's at Regent Sound Studios on West 56th Street in New York City with Ron Dante of The Archies on vocals and Bobby Nathan on guitar.

In 1970, the song was released by The Cinnamon[8] and released on Birth/Cottonball/Wheel Records[9] produced by Roy Cicala and Lori Burton.

in 1970, Nathan, while driving a taxi. met Gerome Ragni (Hair (musical)) one night at Max's Kansas City and began writing with Gerome at his room at the Hotel Chelsea. They penned several songs together. Nathan recorded them at home, but never recorded or released them professionally.

In 1971 Nathan worked as a bartender for Richard Ross at Home Restaurant on 91st Street and Second Ave. May Pang, John Lennon's Secretary hung out there nightly and eventually brought John Lennon to the club. Nathan started a weekly Sunday Jam session there and met many other musicians and continued to collaborate on song writing. In 1972 Nathan bought a TEAC A-2340 4 Track recorder for his home recording studio and made demo recordings for his songs.

In 1973, Nathan learned to be a recording engineer on pro gear while working as a bartender at Lloyd Price's Turntable on Broadway in New York City. Price had a professional 8 Track Ampex tape recorder and Audio Kinetics console in the club. Price would rehearse the bands that played at the club to learn his hit songs, just in case he wanted to jump on stage during their shows. Nathan would record Lloyd and the bands during the afternoons before the club opened.

Software Developer

In 2003 Bobby Nathan founded Unique Recording Software[71][72][73] better known as URS plug-ins.[74][75]

URS Classic Console EQ Bundle

URS introduced the URS Classic Console EQ Bundle[76][77][78] featuring the first two URS plug-ins, URS A series EQ[79]>[80]and the URS N series EQ.[81]>[82] The URS Classic Console Equalizer is designed to re-create the pro analog recording studio sound to the Pro Tools studio and were introduced at the 115th Audio Engineering Society convention [83] in The New York City Friday October 10 - Monday October 13, 2003. The URS A series EQ is an emulation of a famous vintage 1970's American recording console's equalizer section module. The URS N series EQ is an emulation of a famous vintage 1970's British recording console's equalizer section module.

In 2004, the URS Classic Console EQ Bundle was nominated for a Mix (magazine) TEC award[84] for Outstanding Technical Achievement, Signal Processing Technology (Software).

[88][89] The URS A10 series EQ[90] is an emulation of a famous vintage 1970's American recording console's 10 band graphic equalizer section module. The URS A series EQ[91] is an emulation of a famous vintage 1970's British recording console's equalizer section module as 12 band graphic equalizer.

URS Fultec Program EQ Bundle

The URS Fultec Program EQ Bundle[92] consists of two plug-ins, The URS FulTec Program EQ and the URS BLT Program EQ.

The URS Fultec Program EQ consists of five bands that overlap for a wide range of subtle and powerful changes..

The URS BLT Program EQ is a two band Program Equalizer with selected URS FullTec bass and treble curves for quick track or mix sweetening.Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).

URS 1975 Classic Compressor

The URS 1975 Classic Compressor[93] digitally recreates of a transformer input and voltage controlled gain reduction amplifier (VCA) characteristics.

URS Classic Console Strip

Classic Console Strip consists of independent compressor and EQ sections.

The Compressor section digitally recreates characteristics of a transformer input and a specially designed 1975 VCA gain reduction amplifier. The Compressor features fully adjustable Threshold, Ratio and Gain Makeup with three preset Attack and Release settings.

The EQ section features a three band EQ digitally recreated from three different analog consoles. URS selected the critical frequencies for today's Hip Hop, R&B and Rock. The LF and HF EQ bands each offer three different frequencies. The Mid range EQ band is fully sweepable with selectable Sharp or Wide "Q" bandwidth.

The Compressor and EQ sections are totally independent of each other featuring separate In/Out switching. The Compressor section is selectable between Pre/Post the EQ section.

In 2008, the Unique Recording Software URS Classic Console Strip Pro was nominated for a Mix (magazine) TEC award[94] for Outstanding Technical Achievement, Signal Processing Technology (Software).

URS Classic Console Strip Pro

The URS Classic Console Strip Pro v2.0 is a multi console in the box channel strip solution that allows the engineer create his or her dream console by choosing favorite algorithms from the Input Stage, Compressor and EQ selections.

In 2008 The URS Classic Console Strip Pro was nominated a Mix (magazine) TEC award[95] for Outstanding Technical Achievement, Signal Processing Technology (Software).

URS Saturation

The URS Saturation plug-in[96] includes six digitally recreated Pre Amplifiers that add different and distinct vintage even and odd ordered harmonics, input stage saturation and soft clipping.

URS Phat C

The URS Phat C[97] is a multi purpose analog sounding compressor for individual tracks and buses. It replicates characteristics of not one but many hardware compressors . It's Input Stage adds saturation to color and effect the compressor's response to different program material. The six saturation models recreate vintage harmonics and soft clipping that effect transients before compression. The URS Phat C uses a combination of saturation and compression to produces a fat sound.

URS M series EQ Bundle

The URS M Series EQ Bundle[98] consisyes of two plugins, The URS M series Motorcity 7 band graphics EQ and The URS M series Vintage Cinema 6 band graphic EQ.

The URS M series MotorCity Equalizer digitally recreates the legendary 7 band passive equalizers used exclusively by Motown staff engineers during the Motown era. I heard it through the grapevine that the sliders on the early units were unreliable. Motown's cheif technical engineer Mike McLean built "Brick House" custom modified clones using stepped rotary switches on each band for added reliability and a variable gain booster amplifier for gain level matching. It has been our Pride and Joy recreating this classic.

The URS M series Vintage Cinema Equalizer digitally recreates the even rarer 6 band passive equalizers used for film and professional cinema. The original vintage hardware units were considered to be of the first equalizers ever made with six bands - 80hz, 200hz, 500hz, 1.25khz, 3.2khz and 8khz. We have added what we feel is a necessary seventh band at 16khz. The URS Vintage Cinema EQ frequencies overlap with the URS M series MotorCity EQ frequency centers and when both plug-ins are used together they make a total of fourteen bands.

URS N4 Classic Console EQ

The URS N4 Classic Console EQ[99] Digitally recreates the sound of a vintage British Six Band Equalizer (4 bands plus HP/LP Filters).

URS Everything EQ Bundle

The URS Everything EQ Bundle[100] includes: URS A series - 4 band Parametric EQ URS N series - 5 band Parametric EQ URS S series - 6 band Parametric EQ URS A-MIX EQ - 7 band Parametric EQ URS N-MIX EQ - 7 band Parametric EQ URS S-MIX EQ - 7 band Parametric EQ URS A10 series - 10 band Graphic EQ URS N12 series - 12 band Graphic EQ URS BLT EQ - 2 band Program EQ URS FullTec - 5 band Program EQ URS MotorCity - 7 band EQ URS Vintage Cinema - 7 band EQ
