Series overview
The judges auditions took place between January and February 2020, within London and Manchester. Filming commenced during this period for the standard pre-recorded episodes, and was finished by the end of the final audition session. However, by March of that year, the global coronavirus pandemic began to affect the United Kingdom, with the government bringing in measures to curb the spread, eventually calling on a cut down of mass gatherings in public spaces. Live television production was greatly impacted as a result, with ITV announcing that the live rounds would be delayed until a later date.[1] Although speculation was made over these taking place weeks after the audition episodes were aired and without a live audience, Amanda Holden indicated in May 2020 that the live rounds would potentially air in Autumn within a perceived safe period for live television programmes, stating that Britain's Got Talent would not function well without an audience present for the live rounds.[2]
