Kurup

Kurup is an Indian surname of a Nair caste. Martial art masters were generally conferred with this title.
In olden days,the barbers and funeral rite performers of Kaniyar community were called Kani kurup /pothuvan kurup and now this sub-caste is almost vanished due to conversion to Ezhava.[1] There are several other castes also has this surname in relation with their hereditary occupational functions, the Kallatu Kurup, Kalam kurup, Vilkurup etc are some among them
