Bill Kaulitz (born in Leipzig, Germany, September 1, 1989) is the vocalist of the German band Tokio Hotel.
Life
Childhood
He was born to Simone and Jörg Kaulitz (now divorced, though his mother remarried). His stepfather (Gordon Trümper) had a big influence on him with his music, as his stepfather is a guitarist in a band. His twin brother Tom Kaulitz is the guitarist in Tokio Hotel and was born 10 minutes before him.
In kindergarten, the Kaulitz twins had shirts with their names on them so people could tell them apart. Over the years they have started to look slightly different, though. Bill was only seven when he started writing lyrics. In primary school, he and Tom often threw paper balls and ink at their teachers. Eventually, in Grade 7, Bill was separated from Tom, because they played too many tricks and pranks. Bill has a grade average of 1.9, (a good grade in Germany). It's also higher than Tom's: 2.2 (in Germany, 6 is the lowest grade, while 1 is the highest).[citation needed]
Style
Bill is often known for his very androgynous rocker look. He is often seen wearing tight jeans, black jackets, rock band tees, and gothic jewelry. He has also been dying his hair black since he started singing and also wears heavy dark eyeliner.
However, his looks have garnered criticism. His skinny frame has led to people criticising him for portraying a negative image towards his fans. His use of make-up has also been called "unnatural." Bill has, however, made it clear that he is simply an artist expressing himself through his music as well as through his choice of clothing.
His motto is allegedly Leb die sekunde (English: Live the second).[citation needed]
Career
Bill has been singing since he was seven as well as song writing. He went on shows such as German Star Search and performed alongside his twin, Tom, in multiple shows. In 2001, he and Tom later met Georg and Gustav. They had similar tastes in music and formed a band together called 'Devilish.' After playing small shows in bars and clubs, the group was approached by music producer Peter Hoffmann in 2003 and were soon after signed with Universal Music Domestic Division in Hamburg. They were then known as 'Tokio Hotel.' Assisted by other writers, Bill co-wrote the majority of the songs on their debut album, "Schrei". The album sold quickley and Tokio Hotel became popular all over Europe.
Personal Life
Bill has kept a majority of his personal life out of the tabloids. His sexuality is a hot button issue amongst his fans. He has, however, stated that he isn't homosexual, despite rumors that have sprouted up due to his androgynous appearance. Recently, a rumor began circulating that he and his fellow band mates died in a train crash accident. However, the rumor has been proven wrong by the band's management team and they will be going back to the studio to record their next album.
He currently lives in Loitsche, near the town of Magdeburg in Germany, although now the whole band temporarily lives in Hamburg, because they are recording their new album. He is 183 cm tall. 'He's very sensitive and worries alot, he says he doesn't smoke though he's caught with a cigarette in his hand on a picture once. He's not interested in sports at all, and according to himself, he can't dance; instead, he's the type of person to stand in a corner watching others.'
