Romain Avril (born 7th of November 1985) is a French chef currently residing in Canada, he is an award-winning chef, a restaurateur, and quoted as “a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with a passionate for food that offers an unforgettable experience to the customer he caters”. With a plethora of cooking styles ranging from classic cuisine to modern styles, molecular or fusion.

Romain is known for his calm, cool and collected persona. His dedication to the culinary arts can be seen in his visual plating and oral distinctions. Romain has continued to build a successful career and has become one of the newest top chefs in North America and continue to rise. Proving he is a true contender within the culinary arts on a global stage.

Education:

In 2002 Romain graduated form the Brevet d'Etudes Professionnelles High school Edouard Branly in La Roche sur Yon (France). Here he selected the study of cuisine. In 2004 he attended and graduated his Baccalaureat Professionnel High school Nicolas Appert, in Nantes (France). In 2006, he graduated Brevet de Technicien Superieur Hotellerie RestaurationHigh school Nicolas Appert, in Nantes (France). In 2007, he graduated from the Licence professionnelle arts culinaire et arts de la table specialite gastronomie chinoise University of Angers (France).

Early Years:

Born in Paris, France in 1985, of his father Louis Avril and mother Marie Noelle Avril (born Trichet) on 7th of November 1985 L’Isle Adam, Val D’oise, Ile-de-France, France. Romain is the first of two children, he has a younger brother. His family’s ancestry can be traced back to the west coast of France. Romain’s father’s side is from Britanny, and mothers is from Vendee.

Chef Romain Avril discovered his passion for cooking at the early age of thirteen. By seventeen, found employment at A 1 Michelin Star restaurant in Brittany (France).

Romain obtained his Bachelor Degree in French and Chinese gastronomy in his native land of France, while concurrently working at 1 and 2 Star Michelin restaurants as well as Relais et Chateaux venues.

At 21, Avril moved to London and began cooking at The Greenhouse in Mayfair, London. It was at this 2 Michelin Star restaurant that Avril had the opportunity to try his culinary hand at feeding prominent UK politicians, as well as high-profiled celebrities (Tony Blair, Tom Cruise) .

In 2007, it was in England that Avril began moving away from his classic French training and towards fusion and molecular gastronomy. In 2010, Avril decided to move to Canada; a country he had briefly visited in his youth as a teenager, and vowed to come back.

Romain started as a Sous Chef at Colborne Lane Restaurant in Toronto, then moved on to open Origin North Restaurant and Bar as the Chef De Cuisine located . Finally in 2014, Romain achieved Executive Chef at the renowned La Société Bistro located at 131 Bloor Street West. Toronto, Ontario. Fuelled by ambition, Romain then took on the capacious project of opening Lavelle restaurant where he cooked for personalities such as Drake, LeBron James, Joseph Gordon-Hewitt, Pharell, Kyle Lowry to name a few. As well as Goldie Bar. His latest project was opening Neruda, in the prominent Beaches area of Toronto.

Chef Avril is the Canadian ambassador for Monogram. He had also represented brands such as Nespresso, Google, Club house, Goose Island, Circle K, Club House, Ace Bakery, South Paw Era and Zwilling, to name a few. Chef Romain has appeared on TV segments and shows on numerous occasions, including the Food Network channel. He has recognized for his talent in an assortment of publication and has been featured in multiple food, lifestyle, home and fashion magazines (such as Toronto Life, Swagger, Canadian Living, Home and Reno...

In 2017 Chef Romain created his own company “Romain Avril Inc” and is currently working on opening few restaurants as well as the writing of a vegan cookbook. He also launched a podcast called Gas OFF and a YouTube channel providing informative video’s, both online and in person cooking classes and health tips.
