Telesaar is the designation of the first German private television station. It was brought in 1954 by the European broadcast and television AG, which operates also the transmitter of Europe 1, into service. This was possible, because the Saar County was until the end of 1956 not part of the Federal Republic of Germany and therefore no subject of German broadcast laws. Although Telesaar sended only in French television standard, which German devices could not to be received, the German authorities shut down the Telesaar, and the transmitter had to be adjusted in the middle of 1958. Film material of the transmissions of Telesaar is appropriate today in archives of the Saarland broadcast, for the public broadcasting corporation of the Saarland.
