incorrect Alaska count

This article states that Alaska has 11 census areas in the Unorganized Borough, which in addition to the 19 boroughs sum to 30 county equivalents. But List of boroughs and census areas in Alaska states that there are 10 census areas in the Unorganized Borough for a total of 29 county equivalents. The difference is that Petersburg Census Area, Alaska has changed status. Runner1928 (talk) 21:05, 15 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"County equivalents" Section - Why Aren't Parishes Listed?

The second sentence in our article's lede paragraph says "The term "county" is used in 48 U.S. states, while Louisiana and Alaska have functionally equivalent subdivisions called parishes and boroughs respectively."

Why are Louisiana parishes not listed under "County equivalents"? Forty-one of Louisiana's sixty-four parishes still function under the Police Jury system, an historically and legally distinct variation of county governance. loupgarous (talk) 10:57, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because parishes and boroughs are basically treated as counties in the article. The "County equivalents" section covers areas other than these. There is even a note under the "County equivalents" section,"See also: #County names (below), regarding Louisiana." - BilCat (talk) 11:50, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Population Differences?

The total population of the United States, when totalling country populations, is slightly over 260 million people. Yet official US population (at least when these numbers were calculated) was between 310-320 million.

Can someone explain this discrepancy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.58.117.246 (talk) 16:21, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Saying the same thing twice in one paragraph

Before today, one introduction paragraph (including a note) had these three sentences:

Territories of the United States do not have counties; instead, the United States Census Bureau also divides them into county equivalents. American Samoa locally has places called counties, but these are not considered to be counties by the U.S. Census Bureau. The U.S. Census Bureau counts American Samoa's districts and atolls as county-equivalents.

Is there some reason why it's important to mention American Samoa twice? When I removed this redundancy, it was reverted. 64.203.187.74 (talk) 19:26, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
