The AISSCE (All India Senior School Certificate Examination), also called Boards in common language, is an examination conducted every year by the Central Board of Secondary Education on behalf of the Government of India.
Examination
Each subject in the examination is graded out of 100 marks.[1] For subjects like physics, chemistry, geography, biology, etc. in which practical exams are also conducted, 30/20 marks are reserved for practicals and internals and 70/80 marks for the theory exams. From 2020,even in subjects like English, political science, history, regional languages, etc., CBSE issued guidelines to conduct internal assessment for 20 marks for which only the theory exam filled up the 100 marks limit up till 2019. Theory papers are conducted for a duration of 3 hours, while the duration for practical exams depends on the subject.
CBSE issued guidelines for the addition of practical marks to mathematics in March 2019 [2] For practical exams, students have to perform practicals in other schools usually given by CBSE at random in the nearby state or area, maintain their records and attend a viva. The CBSE gives a list of practicals from which students are asked to perform practicals.[3][4]
Results
The results of the examinations is declared in the first week of May. In general, the passing percentage is around 80%.[5] The Delhi High Court has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education and Delhi University to discuss the ways by which the results of Main Exam, Revaluation, and Compartment Exam can be declared earlier than usual so that candidates do not miss the cut-off dates.
In 2020, due to Covid-19 crisis, some of the exams had been rescheduled to July which further postponed the expected results from May to August.
