ISO 22322:2015 (Societal security – Emergency management – Guidelines for public warning) is an international standard developed by the ISO/TC 292 Security and Resilience committee, published by the International Organization for Standardization in 2015.
ISO 22322 is a document that provides guidelines for developing, managing, and implementing public warnings before, during, and after incidents[1]. It guides users on how to issue a public warning, and includes guidelines on the public warning process.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] [9][10][11] Its purpose is to ensure that people take appropriate safety measures and seek additional information on how to respond to emergencies. The International Security Standard is applicable to any organisation that is responsible for issuing public warnings, both domestically and internationally.
Typically, risks and consequences of potential hazards are assessed before planning and implementing the public warning system, although this process is not part of the International Standard. In a severe emergency situation, it may be vital to alert people at risk by implementing simple procedures to send alert messages efficiently.
