More POV
The introduction sounds like it was written by the mayor or something. "Home to the 10th best university," etc. etc. I'm going to clean this up a bit and if I go overboard feel free to change some of it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.38.5.59 (talk • contribs) 19:46, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
History
Irvine was largely controlled by the Irvine family until the death of Myford Irvine in 1959. Irvine's death was rules a suicide although he was shot repeatedly. Irvine had been involved with a development at the property of what became Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and was known to have Mafia ties, including Mickey Cohen. He begged his estate for millions in cash on short notice shortly before his death. The land was soon bought by Kirk Kerkorian, who made a fotune leasing it to the casino. http://time-proxy.yaga.com/time/archive/preview/0,10987,837338,00.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.107.248.127 (talk • contribs) 09:26, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
"Notable natives and residents" is way too big
For a small city this is mildly interesting but for a large city it's not useful. According to guidelines this should be broken in a seperate article (WP:USCITY#Notable natives and residents). Also, although some have references do they say they currently live within the city boundaries. --MarsRover (talk) 03:27, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Because of the large number of notable people, I agree that there should be a separate article (like the one on Orange County people). While they do not have to currently live in Irvine, they should either be a native or a resident, as the section name notes. The references should state that they have a connection to Irvine, but I have not checked them. Maybe those should be reviewed first. Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 03:40, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- I checked a few of the entries. Most have some link to Irvine but it’s too broad. Maybe the ex-mayor is notable but it just seems redundant having him there. A baseball player that at some point went to UCI for a few years. A guitarist for 80s hair band that grow-up in Irvine but wasn't born there. Even if someone wants to gather all the people that had something to do with Irvine, a "category" would be better. --MarsRover (talk) 07:17, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hello there, I thought I'd chime in since I have spent the last few months editing and verifying the information in the "Notable natives and residents" section. First off I would like to support a page of this subject, however I am open to it either remaining on the Irvine, California page or becoming a separate page on its own. In regards to the individual's connection to Irvine, I have made sure that each person either grew up in Irvine or currently resides in the town. Those that did not meet the aforementioned qualifiers were given a "citation needed" tag besides their name. In my opinion I feel that those two qualifers are accepable to place an individual in the Irvine "Notable natives and residents". I am open to discussion with anyone would like to further debate aspects this section. Thanks! --Djrun (talk) 18:18, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Lee Harvey Oswald stationed at El Toro Marine Base (which isn't even in the city of Irvine); wow that's a stretch! Nicvalbuena (talk) 21:24, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Larry Ford
The following historical event in Irvine is sourced from a reliable, third-party, published source (the New York Times and Los Angeles Times), provides a short summary of the event with a link to the main article, and is a factor that has influenced the subject's history.
In March 2000, anthrax containers were found buried in the Woodbridge, Irvine yard of Dr. Larry C. Ford, a biomedical researcher who specialized in infectious diseases. [1] This prompted city officials close an elementary school and evacuate 48 Woodbridge families (about 250 residents) in the immediate area while they performed a thorough search of Ford's home. [2] Ford committed suicide after his business partner, James Patrick Riley, chief of Biofem, Inc. was shot and wounded near the Irvine Spectrum by a masked gunman.
So why do people keep removing it? -75.50.111.95 (talk) 22:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- The two other editors along with I have removed it because it puts undue weight on, as David Eppstein put it in his edit summary, a very minor events that did not shape the history of Irvine the way the others in this section did. The event, while notable enough for a standalone article, is not notable enough for inclusion within the city of Irvine article. The event did not result in any long-term or notable change to the city. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Geography
I changed the location of Santa Ana from Northeast to Northwest and changed Laguna Woods to South east from South. I hope the move didn't shake anybody up. Would anybody consider inserting the Irvine villages map pdf? —Preceding unsigned comment added by MrEdxoxo (talk • contribs) 02:45, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Points of Interest
I added Blizzard Entertainment to points of Interest mostly because It is stationed here and is a nearly world reknowned company, If you find it isnt fit to be in the Points of Interest area you may feel free to remove it. -- User:Dobat 8 December 2009 —Preceding undated comment added 16:08, 8 December 2009 (UTC).
- Blizzard Entertainment is already listed in the Business section, so I removed it from Points of interest. Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 16:14, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah forgive me then I didn't notice that there. Thank you for clearing it up. User:Dobat 8 December 2009
Freight Rail
I added a small section on freight rail in the article due to its importance and availability of information. Before removing it, please reply to this so it can be discussed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tex KT (talk • contribs) 22:51, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Downtown Irvine
The picture posted is not Downtown Irvine, but rather the Irvine Business Complex, half ot this "Business Complex" is in Newport Beach. The "real" downtown Irvine lies off the I-5 and 133 fwy's. It is factually incorrect to claim that this image is representative of "Downtown Irvine." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.143.44 (talk • contribs) 01:44, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- There is no "downtown Irvine". The city is a collection of planned localities, not an organic or historic center which radiates outward into suburbs. Binksternet (talk) 02:09, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Structure
Hi. I'm going through all the US Cities (as per List of United States cities by population) in an effort to provide some uniformity in structure. Anyone have an issue with me restructuring this article as per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. I won't be changing any content, merely the order. Occasionally, I will also move a picture just to clean up spacing issues. I've already gone through the top 20 or so on the above list, if you'd like to see how they turned out. Thoughts? Onel5969 (talk) 16:24, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds unproblematic to me. —David Eppstein (talk) 16:57, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
Hey. I was thinking that you can discuss the different bike trails and places to hike in Irvine. Such as the Shady Canyon Trail or the Quail Hill Trail. I also feel like some of the information may need to be a little updated. Thanks! User:AlichoroomiAlichoroomi (talk) 01:49, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Photo montage for Irvine
I added a photo montage to the Irvine wiki page. At this point, Irvine is big enough and has enough pictures available on Wikimedia Commons to justify doing so.

Sources, and accuracy of information.
I'd like to ask two questions related to this article. I just updated the city management, but there is no source for the current city clerk except my own knowledge since it is not listed on any web page. Would we be allowed to use publicly accessible council meeting minutes or agendas? Both of these would be able to verify that Molly Perry is the current city clerk.
I'd also like to talk about the accuracy of information on this page with regards to term numbers. Irvine imposed term limits in 2014, but they are not retroactive. Because of this qualification I believe that there is inaccuracy or even disinformation in the terms box. For example, it lists this as Christina Shea's first term as mayor, but it is not. She served two terms before the term limits were imposed, and even the source cited by this box (https://ballotpedia.org/Christina_Shea) notes that "Shea previously served as mayor of Irvine from 1996 to 2000." Which would actually make this her realistic third term, but first post-term limits. How do we want to handle this?
