Chicken (food)Chicken meat – We generally prefer WP:NATURAL disambiguation on Wikipedia, and we also like WP:CONSISTENCY - see turkey meat. Red Slash 17:51, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would normally support such a move to a WP:NATURAL title. However, I find the construction "chicken meat" very odd. As I was raised, chicken was never considered a meat, but a poultry. One buys poultry at a poulterer's, and meat at a butcher's. For that reason, I cannot support the proposed title, and must oppose it. RGloucester 22:02, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any evidence that this is actually called chicken meat?--67.68.31.244 (talk) 16:52, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose the current name is fine and the new one is weird 76.120.162.73 (talk) 18:25, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Wouldn't 'Chicken (food)' be a page about what chickens eat? Both in captivity and in the wild. And what to feed your chickens if you raise them. Maybe rename this to the more accurate 'Chicken (as food)'. Randy Kryn 18:28, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment but this is about food, not the meat itself, which is an interrelated topic; not all the meat is food, not all bits eaten as food is meat. -- 70.51.202.183 (talk) 05:19, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - The current title reflects the subject more so than the proposed one. Additionally, "meat" has a specific connotation in (American) English, that is the flesh from a mammalian source (Pork, lamb, mutton and beef are traditionally considered "meat", while chicken, turkey and other fowl are considered "poultry") Finally, if you wish to change the current naming structure of this article, it should follow similarly named articles such as fish as food, salmon as food and other related topics. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 08:28, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Jeremy (blah blahI did it!), it should be Chicken as food. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NewMutants (talkcontribs) 13:59, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Genetically Modified Chicken

Keeping in view of the growing concern, the subject section should be added under the category "Health" for the benefit of the readers — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.233.34.220 (talk) 01:47, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

BBC Programme

There's a lot of material in this radio programme which someone might wan to include here - including the 1951 competition in the USA, and stats about the numbers of birds consumed in various years, in the UK and globally. Chicken as foodChicken (food)Talk:Anchovies as food#Requested move 22 September 2014 says to nominate other food-related articles separately. – GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 20:59, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@GeoffreyT2000 and Dicklyon: This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:22, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see the meaning implicit in his rationale now. He wanted to move it against the outcome of the cited RM because it said "nominate". That's really not much of a rationale; if he objects to the move, he should say so, and why. Anyway, I still oppose because the outcome of that RM seems pertinent here. Like you, I support the current title. Dicklyon (talk) 06:49, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cooking Methods

Soiled Chicken- one relatively obscure cooking method, known as soiled chicken, hails from the northern regions of Mexico. According to common lore, soiled chicken produces succulent, juicy results by means of conductive heating through contact with the earth. The procedure is simple; the results are surprising: a medium size hole is dug in the ground in an open field far from any tall objects which might cast a shadow on the cooking area. The chicken is then buried in the hole and covered with the soil. After 12 hours, the chicken is unearthed and eaten, fully cooked. Care must be taken to bury the chicken during the heat of the day when the ambient air temperature rises above 110 degrees Fahrenheit, as conductive heat transfer and the effects of insulation will cause the chicken to slow cook to perfection. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JBayless (talkcontribs) 16:43, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Could the 'wooden/woody breast condition/syndrome' be worth mentioning?

Google Search gives many more hits than just these. I would add a few words about this 'wooden breast condition' to the article myself, but for some reason I'm blocked from editing the article. 195.191.241.14 (talk) 18:02, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Introduction Change

In the introduction, "The poultry farming industry that accounts for chicken production takes on a range of forms across different parts of the world. In developed countries, chickens are typically subject to intensive farming methods, while less-developed areas raise chickens using more traditional farming techniques." should at least be tagged as citation needed. While, anecdotally it is likely true, anecdotally doesn't really work for an encyclopaedia. 75.144.18.75 (talk) 09:27, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

World production figures

We should have some world production figures. Can anyone help? --2402:1980:8180:CF9B:89A5:C17A:2046:7434 (talk) 07:35, 13 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Low quality article

The article is of low standard and should be marked as needing improvement, including the referencing.

Many references are mediatic (news, blogs) on a subject where there is no shortage of solid references. The origin of chicken is mistaken. The description of "Blancmange" is wrong. Ironically, hovering over the link shows what a blancmange is.

There are a number of sentences which are below quality. One example: "Raw chicken maintains its quality longer in the freezer, as moisture is lost during cooking" and in fact most of the "Freezing" section which has no place in an article on chicken.
