Bangla Tigers (Template:Lang-bn) is a franchise T10 cricket team representing Bangladesh cricket in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, a T10 cricket tournament.
Foundation
The Bangla Tigers entered the T10 League in 2019, replacing the Pakhtoons. The team formerly known as the Bengal Tigers became the Delhi Bulls.[1][2] The team was set up with the dual aims of targeting Bangladeshi cricketers and attracting Bangladeshi fans based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).[3][4][5] To allow expatriates from around the UAE to watch their games, the team arranged for buses to collect their fans from across the country.[6]
Bangla Tigers franchise is owned by Mohammad Yasin Chowdhury, Chairman of FMC Group of Companies.[7][8] In season 3 of the tournament, the team was captained by Thisara Perera and coached by Aftab Ahmed.[9][10] Ahead of the 2020 tournament, Bangla Tigers appointed former South African player Lance Klusener as team director.[11][12][13]
2019 season
After initially hoping to feature Bangladesh international players, they were thwarted by the scheduling of a Bangladesh national cricket team tour to India. They were further challenged by the Pakistan Cricket Board denying Pakistan players permission to play in the T10 tournament.ref>"The eye of the Bangla Tigers". Khaleej Times. 24 November 2019. The Bangla Tigers reached the play-offs in fourth place after winning thrice, losing twice and tying once. They lost the Eliminator to the Deccan Gladiators and played in third place play-off. In the play-off, the Tigers defeated the Qalandars by six wickets. The Tigers successfully chased the Qalandars score of 109/3, getting to 113/4 with two balls to spare in the tenth over.[14]<[15][16][17][18][19]
