The Ambassador Award is a prestigious award presented by the American Geophysical Union awards to recognize individual Early career, mid-career, or senior scientists of the Union whose contributions in research, education, and innovation have significantly advanced the Earth and space science.[1] The award is annually given to one to five individuals with notable achievements in one or more of the societal impact, service to the Earth and space community, scientific leadership, and promotion of talent/career pool fields. [2] This award is to recognize the ground breaking contributions of individuals whose achievements are beyond the scope of traditional scientific honors. The recipients will be made an AGU Fellow. [3]
History
Walter L. Huber (1883-1960) was an engineer, mountaineer, and conservationist. His research interests mostly were in the field of structural, hydroelectric, and irrigation projects. He also made some studies in the field of flood control, municipal water supplies, seismic forces and earthquake resistance.[4]
The awards authorized for the first time as annual awards by the ASCE board of direction to encourage research activities in civil engineering in July 1946.[5] These prestigious annual awards endowed in honor of Walter L. Huber, Past President of the ASCE, by his wife Alberta Reed Huber in 1964.
Award Condition
