Jung Yoon-oh (Korean: 정윤오; born February 14, 1997), professionally known by the stage name Jaehyun (Korean: 재현), is a South Korean singer, presenter and radio DJ. He is best known as a member of the boy band NCT. In 2016, he debuted in the group's first sub-unit, NCT U, and later that year was announced as a member of the Seoul based sub-unit, NCT 127. In his presenting career, Jaehyun has been a weekly host of music television programs Show Champion (2015) and Inkigayo (present), and has also regularly featured as a guest host on M Countdown. He formerly featured in late night radio show NCT Night Night with fellow member Johnny.
Career

[edit]Jaehyun was born as Jung Jae-hyun on February 14, 1997, in Seoul, South Korea. Jaehyun and his parents migrated to Connecticut, United States when he was five years old, where Jaehyun attended public school under the English name "Jay". They returned to Korea in 2007, moving into the province of Gangnam, where Jaehyun's family still resides. He legally changed his name to Jung Yoon-oh when he was fourteen, before he became a trainee.
Jaehyun attended Shindong Elementary School and Shindong Middle School. In 2012, he was scouted by an SM Entertainment employee whilst on his way home from school, subsequently passing an audition at the company and becoming a trainee. Jaehyun graduated from School of Performing Arts Seoul in 2016, majoring in Broadcasting Arts.
On December 10, 2013, Jaehyun was announced as a new member of trainee project SM Rookies via their social media channels. He featured frequently on related content, such as videos on the SM Town YouTube channel and on the Korean reboot of Mickey Mouse Club, and was one of the SM Rookies on boy group EXO's Exo 90:2014. In January 2015, Jaehyun was announced to be a co-presenter of Show Champion with fellow rookie Doyoung, which he hosted weekly until July of the same year. He promoted as SR15B Jaehyun in dance and vlog-style videos throughout 2015.
2016-18: Debut, NCT
[edit]In April 2016, Jaehyun debuted as a member of NCT U with the songs "The 7th Sense" and "Without You", which werealso the first releases of NCT overall.[1] In July of that year, he debuted as a member of NCT 127 with their first EP NCT #127, for which he was credited as a co-writer on the main title track, "Fire Truck".[2][3] Jaehyun was announced to be a cast member of SBS variety show Law of the Jungle in November 2016. The series was filmed in Fiji.
In January 2017, NCT 127 returned with the EP Limitless.[4] In June, the group released their third EP, Cherry Bomb. The title track, "Cherry Bomb", was later named as one of the best K-pop songs of the year by Billboard and Idolator.[5][6] In November, Jaehyun participated in the SM Station project on the collaboration track Try Again with Korean R&B solo artist d.ear. Promotions featured an artsy-style polaroid photo shoot and trailer video, titled Poetic Beauty. In January 2018, Jaehyun was announced as a member of a new NCT-U unit for SM Station with fellow vocalists Doyoung and Taeil, on the single Timeless. In March 2018, NCT released their first full album as part of a large-scale project uniting all of its subgroups - NCT 2018 Empathy. Jaehyun appeared in all three of the units featured on the album (NCT 127, NCT 2018, and NCT U).[7][8][9] He made his debut in Japan with NCT 127's EP Chain in May 2018. The album peaked at number two of the Oricon Weekly Albums chart, and Jaehyun's cover of the physical album was the first to sell out..[10]
In October 2018, NCT 127 released their first full album, Regular-Irregular, and the promotional single "Regular". The song was released in two languages: English and Korean,[11], and a repackage of the album with second promotional single "Simon Says".[12].
2019: Global promotions
[edit]In January 2019, NCT 127 announced their first concert tour, 'NEO CITY - The Origin', with a series of Korean and Japanese dates. The tour extended to North America, further countries in East Asia and Europe. An album of the tour, Neo City: Seoul - The Origin, was released in October 2019.
In April, NCT 127 released their first full-length Japanese album, Awaken, with the single "Wakey Wakey".[13]
In May, NCT 127 released their fourth mini-album We Are Superhuman, which was promoted around Korea and globally on their first world tour. Jaehyun performed with NCT 127 as a special guest at the 2019 Global Citizen Festival in New York in September.
