Jesse Luke Walker

Short life story so far...

I was born in Hutt Hospital, Lower Hutt, New Zealand and lived at nearby Wainuiomata until the end of 1989. From 1990 to 1999 I lived in Papua New Guinea at Port Moresby (1990/1), Mendi (1992-6), Madang (1997/8) and Lae (1999). I went back to New Zealand for 2000/1 and lived at Harrisville (just outside of Tuakau) and went to school at Pukekohe. From January 2001 until August 2005 I lived in Putney, London, and since then I've been living near Oxford at Headington.

I thoroughly enjoy travelling and have so far been to these countries (in no particular order): New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, England, Jordan, United States of America, Mexico, Italy, Belgium, France, New Caledonia and Thailand, plus many stopovers in airports the world over. I may have missed out one or two countries, but that should give you an idea of how I am :)

Besides English, I am also fairly fluent in Tok Pisin / Pidgin English from my years spent growing up in Papua New Guinea (age 3 to 13). I only know a little bit of French, German, Dutch and Italian which sometimes comes in handy reading insults while playing online games.

Something that might interest you?

There is a blockage in my brain preventing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from going straight to my spinal cord. For this reason, at the age of 10 weeks (back in '86) I had (and still do have) a silastic ventricular catheter (shunt) from my brain to my stomach. The CSF goes from my brain through the 'plastic' tube running behind my right ear, down my neck and to my stomach. Don't worry, it's not on show (all internal tubing!).. but you can feel it if you want to ;)

The doctors coiled it up ever so slightly, so that as I grew (and continue to grow?) there will always be more than enough to unwind.

The condition is called (non-communicating) hydrocephalus or colloquially "water on the brain" .. give me a tap on the head! :p

For some good reading on the condition, check out: What Is Hydrocephalus?
