Danzig was the name of a city that used to belong to Germany. Since 1945, it is called Gdańsk, Poland.
Due to the predominant German background between 1308 and 1945, Danzig refers to the city in this historical context, for example the Free City of Danzig. German language continues to call the town Danzig, like Polish language did use Gdańsk prior to 1945.
