Chris Michael Roycroft (born June 21, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2024.

Career

Roycroft attended Willowbrook High School and Aurora University, where he played college baseball and college basketball at the NCAA Division III level. He was undrafted in 2019.[1]

Joliet Slammers

On February 9, 2021, Roycroft signed his first professional contract with the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League.[2] He made 26 appearances for Joliet in 2021, logging a 4–4 record and 5.81 ERA with 62 strikeouts across 69+23 innings pitched. Roycroft improved his performance the following season, recording a 1.08 ERA across 13 games for the Slammers.[3]

St. Louis Cardinals

On June 29, 2022, Roycroft signed a minor league contract with the St. Louis Cardinals organization.[4] He finished the year with the High–A Peoria Chiefs, compiling a 4.50 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 32 innings across 19 appearances.

Roycroft split the 2023 season between Peoria, the Double–A Springfield Cardinals, and Triple–A Memphis Redbirds. In 46 games out of the bullpen for the three affiliates, he accumulated a 7–8 record and 5.86 ERA with 64 strikeouts across 63 innings of work.[5] Roycroft was assigned to Triple–A Memphis to begin the 2024 season.

On May 6, 2024, Roycroft was selected to the 40-man roster and promoted to the major leagues for the first time.[1] He made his MLB debut the following day striking out 2 batters but surrendered a home run to Pete Alonso.

He won his first MLB game on June 13, pitching in relief, 4-3, getting the final two outs in the sixth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates.[6]
