To add new content to the Cheshire portal, follow the below steps. If in doubt, drop a note on the WikiProject Cheshire talk page to ask someone to help you

For Articles, Biographies & Lists

(1) Suggest the article in the appropriate section of the Suggestions page and wait 7–10 days to make sure no-one objects

(2) Go to the relevant archive page – Articles archive, Biographies archive or Lists archive – and click on the next red-linked slot number at the bottom of the page

(3) Write a teaser blurb of 150–200 words describing the article. Link to the article in bold at first mention

(4) Include a free-use image from the article. Set the width to 220 px for pictures in landscape orientation, 140 px for pictures in portrait orientation, or 180 px for pictures that are roughly square. Set it to align to the right. Write a brief image description for the hover text

(5) Cut & paste from an existing blurb to include the appropriate "Suggest" & "Archive" links at the bottom

(6) Save your blurb

(7) Edit the main portal page. In the Random portal component statement for Selected article, Selected biography or Selected list, as appropriate, increase the "max=" number by one

(8) Save the portal main page

For Pictures

(1) Suggest the image (must be free use) in the Pictures section of the Suggestions page and wait 7–10 days to make sure no-one objects

(2) Go to the Pictures archive page and click on the next red-linked slot number at the bottom of the page

(3) Write a brief teaser blurb (no more than 50 words) describing the image and linking to relevant articles. Include a credit to the image creator, with date, in <small> font

(4) Set the image to a width of 325 px for landscape and 220 px for portrait. Set it to align to the left. Write a brief image description for the hover text

(5) Cut & paste from an existing blurb to include the appropriate "Suggest" & "Archive" links at the bottom

(6) Save your blurb

(7) Edit the main portal page. In the Random portal component statement for Selected picture increase the "max=" number by one

(8) Save the portal main page

For Did You Know items

(1) Suggest the item in the DYK section of the Suggestions page. Unless the item was featured on the main page, wait 7–10 days to make sure no-one objects

(2) Go to the DYK archive page and click on the next red-linked slot number at the bottom of the page

(3) Assemble a set of four items with a single free-use image. They should represent a range of topics and have a balance of long & short hooks. The hook relating to the image goes first and includes the word (pictured)

(4) Set the image at 100x100px and align it to the right. Write a brief image description for the hover text

(5) Replace the bullet points with {{*mp}}

(6) Cut & paste from an existing set to include the appropriate "Suggest" & "More DYKs" links at the bottom

(7) Save the new DYK set

(8) Edit the main portal page. In the Random portal component statement for Did you know increase the "max=" number by one

(9) Save the portal main page

For News items

(1) Suggest the item in the News section of the Suggestions page. Wait 24–48 hours to make sure no-one objects

(2) Add the item to the News archive page. Use the present tense with the date in bold

(3) Add the item to the In the news page. If there are more than 4 news items in the box, delete the oldest one

For In this month items

(1) Suggest the item in the In this month section of the Suggestions page. Wait 24–48 hours to make sure no-one objects

(2) Go to the Calendar archive page, click on the link for the appropriate month at the top of each section (using the section edit link doesn't work) and then edit the subpage

(3) Add the item to the month's subpage. Order by day and then by year (earliest first). Use the past tense with the date in bold
