Merger proposal

Formal request has been received to merge the article Nicky (Avenue Q) into Avenue Q; dated: July 2018. Proposer's Rationale (proposed by IP): This puppet only appears in the musical and his article has barely improved or expanded since its creation over seven years ago. Discuss here. Merger proposal 2

Formal request has been received to merge the article Rod (Avenue Q) into Avenue Q. Proposer's rationale: for the same reasons Nicky (Avenue Q) was merged recently. Pinging @Rosalina2427: @Power~enwiki: Discuss here. Richard3120 (talk) 18:54, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Section added

Hello!

I recently updated the article with the new section "History" and added a new part to the "Puppet Development." The History section is small and needs expansion. It discusses the development of Avenue Q using new information I found. The new part to Puppet Development is called "Other Puppets." It talks about the Boxes from Purpose and Ricky (Ricky was in the wrong section since he is not a live hand puppet). I would like to propose changes to the Musical Numbers part. The characters associated with each number are incorrect and should be fixed to be accurate (eg. "It Sucks To Be Me" should be Company (Nicky's right hand puppeteer sings too) and "You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want (When You're Makin' Love)" should add Brian and Christmas Eve). And I believe "It Sucks to Be Me" (Reprise) should be moved to Other Avenue Q songs because it was not part of the original show or the original cast recording. I'm only mentioning this because I for some reason I cannot edit it. Another item is that the instrumentation part would benefit if someone added the original band members. One more item is the character descriptions must be improved. The script descriptions are insufficient to give the reader information on the character. That's all... London productions missing

The original London cast is listed in the cast table, but the London productions are missing from the Productions section and IB. I know that it originally played at the Noel Coward Theatre (formerly the Albery theatre) for 1,179 performances. See this. It planned to close in 2009 but business was so strong that it soon reopened at the Gielgud Theatre for 327 performances and then moved to Wyndham's Theatre for a 5 year run of 2,080 performances. An off-West End production opened in 2013. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:25, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rod doesn't need his own section

@Ssilvers: There is no reason whatsoever for Rod to have his own subsection in the characters section. The information here in this subsection either trivial or already summarized in the character descriptions above. He is no more important than any other character, so please don't make the baseless assumption that my edits might be vandalism. Songwaters (talk) 16:46, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more specific. The section is discussing the LGBT aspect of the character, among other things. Your brief explanation above does not justify the removal of all of the information. If you think that every single reference and fact stated in the section is either redundant or not encyclopedic, please set forth the arguments step by step. If you cover each fact, you may persuade other editors (and me) that your removal of all this cited material is justified. The fact that the information has been stable in the article for several years requires a good explanation before removal. -- Ssilvers (talk) 02:22, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ssilvers: First of all, everything in the first paragraph is already well-established in the Synopsis section:
Rod is a blue puppet character in Avenue Q. Rod is an extremely well-groomed, obsessively clean, and slightly hysterical (an ANAL-RETENTITIVE Republican banker) closeted homosexual. (Rod finally comes out, to no one's particular surprise.) He is secretly in love with his former college roommate and best friend, Nicky, (Rod hears Nicky say, "I love you, Rod," in his sleep, and is jubilant – but eventually realises it was he who was dreaming.) and is an investment banker (in the show, he reveals that he works on Wall Street). (an anal-retentive Republican BANKER) He is also a conservative Republican. (an anal-retentive REPUBLICAN banker) He is very uptight (Nicky complains about him "ironing his underwear" in "It Sucks to Be Me"). (again, an ANAL-RETENTITIVE Republican banker) In one of the musical's most popular songs, "If You Were Gay", Nicky, who is straight, encourages him to come out of the closet. (Nicky, who is straight, suspects that Rod is gay, and assures Rod it is okay with him if he is; but Rod insists he is not ("If You Were Gay").)
As for the remaining two paragraphs, I suppose the Hollywood Squares appearance and Times Square debate could be mentioned in the Promotional Events section, but they are still quite trivial and have no demonstrable encyclopedic value. If you believe they are, please tell me. And, going back to my main point, we have no excuse to give this side character, and only him, his own subsection. Just because it has been there for years doesn't mean it should be there. Songwaters (talk) 03:20, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. This is well presented. I have removed the redundant stuff (even the Times Square event was already described below, and the ref given here was worth retaining. I also moved Hollywood squared to the promotional events section; it is brief, cited, and I think it fits there well. -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:01, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
