Boot Camp?

Is this a valid description? I think the strip initially was in boot camp, but they appear to just be a run of the mill Army company now. Hell, Beetle's made E2 and reenlisted, ferchrissakes. Boot camp's only 11 weeks long. User:Recharge138

The strip, as of this writng (6/05) , has changed its style of humor to a different slant. The characters seem to take noticeably less humerous and 'cheap shots" at each other.

I hadn't noticed a difference...? Esquizombi 14:22, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greg Walker

Since Greg Walker began working on the strip, the quality of the artwork has declined considerably and the storylines have become ever more rudimentary

This might be true, but it seems very much just like a POV to me. Any reference materials to this statement? 85.225.26.136 12:35, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Totally POV. Remove it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.111.63.98 (talk) 17:41, 14 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Beetle Bailey in Brazil

In Brazil, this character is known as Recruta Zero (Private Zero).

Which is interesting, since Private Zero is the name of a different character in the English version (the buck-toothed private known as Dentinho in the Brazilian publication). --08:49, 1 March 2024 (UTC)Rodrigo de Salvo Braz (talk)

Webbing's pointed fangs

In the description of Sargeant Webbing, there was an inscrutable reference to his "pointed fangs" in comparison with Sarge's "tusk." I thought this might be vandalism, but the person who added it also contributed some other material that doesn't seem to be suspect. If it is in fact a valid description, there should be some explanation of what it means. Arsene 15 November 2006

POV?

"Since Walker's sons began taking more creative control over the strip, the quality of the artwork and the storylines has plummeted to such depths that it is routinely characterized as one of the worst strips in syndication by popular comics blogs like the Comics Curmudgeon."

It seems to me that this quote from the article violates Wikipedia's NPOV rule. What can be done to improve it? Should it just be chopped out? Ccm043 22:13, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work

I did a little work on the tone. The article is full of useful info, just needs to keep an appropriate tone and to cite all its sources. Marcus Taylor 17:06, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Buxley Every Wednesday?

Take a look at this morning's strip (11/04/2009). She is not in it.45750born (talk) 16:07, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Beetle originally named "Spider"?

The article said Beetle's name was originally "Spider". That's not quite true. Mort Walker wrote a cartoon panel about college life for the Saturday Evening Post that included a character named Spider. John Bailey, an editor at the Post, suggested that Walker feature the character. Later, Walker decided to create a strip featuring the characters. When King Features bought the strip, they changed Spider's name to Beetle (probably because of copyright issues), and Walker added the last name in honor of John Bailey.97.73.64.163 (talk) 00:49, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Bunny Piper" vs. "Buzz"

I have removed the part of the article that said Bunny Piper - Beetle's steady girlfriend - was originally named "Buzz". Buzz was Beetle's steady girlfriend when he was in college, and she remained so for a while after he joined the Army. She was much different from Bunny Piper. Buzz had blonde curly hair, freckles, and was a bit of a tomboy. Bunny was a brunette and much more feminine. In the book The Best of Beetle Bailey, Mort Walker was talking about new characters added to the strip, and he simply said, "Buzz was replaced by Bunny". He gave no explanation as to why.97.73.64.155 (talk) 13:27, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I moved Bunny to the "retired characters" section since that seemed more appropriate and added a separate entry there for Buzz in light of this information. Tiggum (talk) 12:07, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Private Zero

Zero was promoted to lieutenant in one strip as a one-off joke and has been shown in his old private's uniform several time since, but for some reason a number of people seem bizarrely invested in making this page inaccurate by continuing to list his rank as lieutenant. Can we please stop that? The text that keeps getting added back to that section isn't even referenced correctly. Tiggum (talk) 23:39, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article in "The Atlantic" is behind a paywall, the link to art.cafimg.com returns a Forbidden error, and the link to beetlebailey.com only returns the current stip. I guess there is not much to learn from here. JIP | Talk 21:57, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Postage stamp

How come no mention of Beetle Bailey (and Sarge) on postage stamps???

Especially since the strip was one of five celebrated/honored in 2010 by the United States Postal Service (USPS) with the release of the "Sunday Funnies" stamps on July 16, 2010. 2600:8800:786:A300:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 22:51, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Plato's real name

Today's Beetle Bailey strip gives Plato's real name as "Aristotle Anaximenes Heraclitus Papagelis". Is this a one-off joke or something worth changing his entry for? Powers T 14:49, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Pealing" Potatoes

"...as of 8-21-1989 he has pealed 50,000 potatoes" 🔔

Somehow that doesn't seem to quite ring true, although I'll concede they could have a very quiet ring. JohndanR (talk) 04:50, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Guinea pig"

The article says Cookie is not above using Beetle as a guinea pig. Now the link goes to the article about actual guinea pigs. That article has a link to guinea pig (disambiguation), which says "guinea pig" is a metaphor for human subject research. Should the link target in this article be changed to that?
