Hong Kong & Macao

Hong Kong and Macao should be listed under the branch of China. We need to maintain consistency when listing autonomous territories. The Faroe Islands, autonomous territories of the Kingdom of Denmark are listed as a sub-section under Denmark.

We should do the same for the People's Republic of China. Instead of Mainland China, we should write China and have sub-sections of Hong Kong and Macao. Russia

Russia has cases in Asia, if Turkey is listed both in Asia why not list Russia here also. Same cases for Cyprus, and the Caucasus countries which some considers to be geopolitically or culturally part of Europe.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 13:11, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Per WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, at Wikipedia we never use one error to justify another. All countries should be listed under one continent or one subcontinent only per WP (and UN) conventions. For Russia this is (Eastern) Europe, for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, and Georgia this is (Western) Asia. For Egypt, this is (Northern) Africa. gidonb (talk) 15:16, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

It isn't an error countries could be classified under different continents and sub regions, though it would be helpful if there's a disclaimer if we are following UN Conventions though or there might be a edit war of users adding in/removing certain countries. Suspected cases.

Can you just remove the section entirely? Many countries that don't have the virus are testing so those countries have suspected cases?! I think the entire section should be removed. Although I can do it myself, people may be angry and just revert it so should it be removed or not? Thank you! Humiebees (talk) 23:17, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

I say keep it... at present only 4 Asian countries have no cases, though frankly this situation is unlikely to last long and if deleted they will just need to be re-added anyway. Even if they stay covid-free it is still useful to have a comprehensive global overview of how every country is responding to the crisis.WisDom-UK (talk) 14:24, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

North Korea

I have moved North Korea from under the "Suspected cases" heading and put it under "Prevention..." There now seems no reason to treat North Korea different from the other countries which have no reported cases. The WHO's COVID-19 Dashboard as of today says North Korea has no confirmed cases. • Oppose The Asia article is a list whose primary function is to index country articles. It can never become a proper article. Giving each country 5KB would make it 250KB. How big would it be if there was something more that could be explored (which there isn't)? What's common among the Asian half of Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, China and East Timor?
  The South Asia article has content, scope and reason to be a proper article; and it meets GNG. South Asia is a socio-economically and culturally coherent region. There's plenty of coverage about what the pandemic would mean for South Asia (being one of the most populated/least developed region). SAARC has been activated, an emergency fund has been started, joint research has been proposed, there have been video calls including the leadership of all the countries and they are preparing to create a ministerial level joint response committee. Countries have sought help from India, and India and China are in a tussle to win the region over. There is no reason to subdivide the continent. SAARC is a kind of response. I know. But that's not a big reason for keeping 'South Asia' article. It can be explained in this (Asia) article. Kanghuitari (talk) 18:20, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

Kanghuitari, WP:SPLITTING is allowed and recommended when there's details to be explored that would be undue in the main article, or if the article is/would-be too large. Both of those apply. "There is no reason to subdivide the continent" — I just gave it. "But that's not a big reason for keeping..." — Why is the onus on me? And what's your argument exactly? The subject meets GNG. I am interested in creating a separate article to explore the topic more fully, which would be undue for the continent article. That's all the justification necessary. If you have concrete objections beyond WP:IDLI, you've yet to give them. (One thing I'll add, what's currently in the article isn't all that there is, or is likely to be If that were the case, I'd agree that it is/would-be just a rehashing.) Regards! • Oppose South Asia is a significant region of the entire Asian continent in many aspects. The region alone holds nearly 40% of entire Asian population and around 25% of the World's population. The measures, policies and laws of this region to combat the outbreak do and will further differ in comparison with other Asian countries. Moreover, the impact of the pandemic in certain countries here has also been predicted to be higher than other nations in the World. See, this, this and also this. • Support: There is no point in keeping a separate article for South Asia. Also, the condition in different countries within South Asia is drastically different. While some might say "What about WP:CONSISTENCY", this page title is more consistent – China's page is titled "2019–20 coronavirus pandemic in mainland China" (because they've had cases in both 2019 and 2020), while the other continents+countries' pages start with "2020" (because their first cases were in 2020). Akrotiri and Dhekelia, Christmas Island, and Cocos (Keeling) Islands

Why are Kashmir and Arunachal greyish in the maps?

Why Arunachal and Jammu&Kashmir are greyed out in the maps used. The data related to them is in public domain or is there some other issue ? This needs redressal AnM2002 (talk) 14:45, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Yes. The area under Chinese occupation in Aksai Chin is shown to be a part of China while Arunachal Pradesh is not being shown as part of India. How ludicrous is that? We need to change the map that is being used. Trojanishere (talk) 14:44, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

Change in map being used required.

In the map used...Aksai Chin which is under Chinese occupation in bordering the UT of Laddakh is shown to be part of China despite it being a disputed territory. While Arunachal Pradesh an Indian state, with complete Indian control and isn't being shown as part of India. Further the UT of Jammu & Kashmir must also be demarcated along the LoC. Cyprus in Asia?

On the map and in the article, Cyprus is included as an "Asian" country. Cyprus views itself as part of Europe, not of Asia. Why is it then listed under Asia? 213.93.223.201 (talk) 10:20, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

The COVID-19 pandemic in Macau is part of the ongoing worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first case of the disease in Macau was confirmed on 22 January 2020. The city saw nine more cases by 4 February, but no more cases until 15 March, when imported cases began to appear. Until 26 April 2021, the city has 49 cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19, all of those having recovered, and no deaths from the disease. Stringent government measures have included the 15-day closure of all 81 casinos in the territory in February; in addition, effective 25 March, the territory disallowed connecting flights at its airport as well as entry by all non-residents (with the exception of residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan), and from 6 April, the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge was closed to public transport and most other traffic.
