Two Caleb Dorsey's in California--cousins

See Caleb W. Dorsey for the other one, a Civil War Colonel. Some historians have sorted the two out. This one, contrary to the link that was used to create this page, was not a CSA officer. They both ended up in Tuolumne County, hence the confusion. Red Harvest (talk) 08:06, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Red Harvest: None of the newspaper notices in 1885 that were published at the time of Caleb Dorsey's death indicate he was a member of the California Legislature. They only state that he was a District Attorney for Stanislaus County, and had been appointed by the Governor as a Regent for State University. On the other hand, the news accounts of Col. Caleb Dorsey in 1896 do state that he had been a member of the California Legislature. A number of the newspapers in 1896 state that the Colonel's name was Caleb T. Dorsey, not Cable W. Dorsey. I modified the two articles to correct the information regarding which was in the California Legislature. A couple more items of note:
1) Some news articles refer to Attorney Caleb Dorsey as "Judge Caleb Dorsey". I couldn't find any evidence he was actually a judge though.
2) Some news articles refer to Colonel Caleb Dorsey as "Senator Caleb Dorsey". I could not find any evidence he was ever a Senator. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 14:18, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
