Untitled

I created Choi Hyunmi's page because she brings hope and future for all of us. Her family defected from North Korea for her to pursue a professional boxing life or just simply better life in South Korea. She defended her WBA champion belt for the second time even though there were many hardship even in holding the Championship defence match. Her story about defecting from North Korea and pursuing a not easy dream was aired in a Korean reality show, Muhandojeon, Unlimited Chanllege, in 2010. This draws people's attention to herself and to boxing as well. I, as a creator of this page, will continue to upload the information, referenced and important.

I've removed the speedy template, and added a few online sources that support notability. If nobody expands the article, I'll return in the near future and do so. 99.156.69.78 (talk) 19:30, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Added enough references to insure notability, which ought to hold this until content is added. 99.156.69.78 (talk) 19:47, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

age discrepancies

in the wiki article it claims:

"At age 18 Choi was asked to prepare to compete in the 2008 Olympics"

since she turned 18 in november long after the 2008 olympics were completed and one month after turning pro, it would be impossible for her to be asked at 18 to compete in the 2008 olympics. at the oldest she would have been 17 if she was asked to compete on the 2008 south korean olympics team, although by the time she turned 17 in late 2007 it was probably already known there would no women's boxing in 2008. this was only a few years after leaving north korea but possible she was a citizen by then and eligible if not unlikely because there wouldn't have been discussions like that by her 17th birthday as they likely already knew it was not a possibility. the article at the link below says at 13 (late 2003-beginning 2004) with no experience she was invited into the boxing program at Kim Chui-joo Educational University in the hopes there may be women's boxing in 2008 which she might be able to qualify for by then theoretically, but her family snuck out of the country in early 2004 when she would still have been 13, so she would not have been in that program in north korea for more than a few months after entering with no experience. she started winning amateur tournaments in south korea in 2006 at 15, then 16, and 17, then turning pro before before her 18th birthday. any discussions about her on a south korean 2008 olympic team would have been at 15 or 16 years old, and more likely any mention of her at an olympics was just theoretical talk about someone with no experience in north korea. https://www.womenboxing.com/biog/hyunmichoi.htm — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1006:B043:E5AA:317E:D325:834C:7753 (talk) 14:48, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
