Is this person notable?
Has this person done anything else notable other than design the rupee symbol? If nothing else is found, I would propose deleting this article and mentioning his name only on the rupee sign page. See WP:BLP1E. Blue Rasberry 13:51, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- I support deletion of this article rams81 (talk) 19:37, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- Delete, he is notable for a single event, see WP:Biography. --Saki talk 13:22, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- I support keeping the article because he is also the very first PhD in Industrial Design in India. User:metacode —Preceding undated comment added 14:56, 16 July 2010 (UTC).
- So...? Mar4d (talk) 15:06, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with Mar4d. Can user:metacode give citations for the statement? What if he is the first PhD in Industrial Design? rams81 (talk) 17:21, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- " If the event is significant and the individual's role within it is substantial, a separate biography may be appropriate." from WP:BLP1E —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.80.48.175 (talk) 13:30, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Another vote for deletion since the individual is by no means worthy of an entire dedicated article. A brief mention on the Indian Rupee page is enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.180.154.131 (talk) 00:18, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Delete - sorry D Udaya Kumar but this does not (yet?) meet notability standards 142.150.194.181 (talk) 18:29, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
"Delete" - Nothing useful here. This guy entered a contest and there were many entrants. He got a petty money some and the symbol is significant. he is not a famous designer or any thing. There is no need for a separate article. Utterly useless.
Another vote for deletion --59.162.23.4 (talk) 07:15, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Person is notable
Not only the event of designing rupee symbol as accomplished by the person is significant but also it has been accepted by Indian Government. Which is remarkable and form a strong base to be here. I do not support deletion. WP:BLP1E
- I do not support merging it with other article. Here not only Designing a rupee symbol is important but at the same time person is also of a significant background. A neutral article title is very important because it ensures that the article topic is placed in the proper context. Therefore, encyclopedic article titles are expected to exhibit the highest degree of neutrality. The article might cover the same material but with less emotive words, or might cover broader material which helps ensure a neutral view (for example, renaming "Criticisms of drugs" to "Societal views on drugs"). Neutral titles encourage multiple viewpoints and responsible article writing. Wikipedia:NPOV tutorial and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/ExamplesAngpradesh (talk) 15:18, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I do not understand this point. Why is he notable? He was called specially to design the rupee symbol? No! he is no one and he is not an accomplished designer. Why do we need this rubbish article. Why should we not merge this with the rupee symbol article. I support merging of the article with the main article. This does not need a new page. Even the government of india does not consider this to be a extraordinary contribution to indian society or economy. It was a government initiated contest. The contest was significant and not the winner. --182.68.155.94 (talk) 21:38, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- Dear 182.68.155.94, this debate has been carried out in 2010, so no point in arguing now. If you wish to reopen the issue, be our guest. Deepon (talk) 02:41, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
I've opened a deletion discussion for the article. TFOWR 18:58, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- Delete With due regards to Mr. Udaya Kumar, as of now his only notable event is designing the Rupee symbol. We can definitely include him at some other period when he becomes notable with a few inventions, discussions or theories. rams81 (talk) 13:27, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
