Dorking or Dorking (Main)?
A recent edit has amended the name of the station to Dorking (Main). This is in line with web pages such as National Rail Enquiries live arrivals/departures, and station information. However the printable national rail timetables December 2010-May 2011 Table 152 and Table 182 show plain Dorking. Should the page be moved? --Redrose64 (talk) 12:58, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- It does look like it might have been recently changed. When I went to Dorking last year the National Rail Enquires website showed it as plan "Dorking" I'm pretty sure. I think we should leave the article as it is for now, and only move it when we know for sure.
- I'm not sure about what the editor was going on about Dorking North for. It's much better without the North, as then you don't know which station (West or North) is the main one! Arriva436talk/contribs 16:29, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'd say to use what the station nameboards say. If they say "Dorking" then use Dorking, if they say "Dorking (Main)" then use Dorking (Main). Mjroots (talk) 18:42, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- That's the problem. It defintaley used to say Dorking ( http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/971788 ), but if the name has changed to Dorking (main), we won't know what the nameboard says until someone goes to the station! Arriva436talk/contribs 18:54, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Using nameboards isn't the best idea. At Newark North Gate they display both "North Gate" and "Northgate". At Alnmouth they display "Alnmouth for Alnwick" and "Alnmouth (Alnwick)". So no consistency there. NRE is probably the most up-to-date reliable source, so use what that says. Alzarian16 (talk) 11:33, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
I haven't been to Dorking for about five years, but AFAIK its common name has been just plain "Dorking". That's what appears on the outside of the station (see photo on article, or Google StreetView), what is announced as the destination of trains terminating there, and what South West Trains refer to the station as [1]. --RFBailey (talk) 04:28, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
