Personal Information

Hi, I don't contribute to Wikipedia but I do have a question. Why is there so little personal information about George? Most celebrities have a 'personal life' section in their wikipedia article. I understand that the article has to be neutral and sourced, but there is a lot of information out there about George that could be added. For example, he has a passion for motorcycles. He has a long time girlfriend named Jasmine. He has a younger sister. He plays on a mens hockey team, drives a hybrid, has two cats, loves metal and blues music, likes scary movies, doesn't drink alcohol, prefers to wear black, etc. etc. etc. This info is easily verified. Why can't it be included? Yelir Tnallag 00:30, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Yelir[reply]

No one has said it can't be, it just needs to be verifiable information and cited properly. If you see something missing, add it to the article. NickBurns 02:25, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to fix the use of "past tense" verbs on the wikipedia page for George. But a robot or a human told me that I should discuss it here first. In particular, he's clearly not living on Richmond St West anymore... So where did he move? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.243.47.5 (talk) 04:25, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On tonight's show, he said that his sister's name is Natasha. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.77.37.48 (talk) 14:15, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think we all know that George's mother's name is Mary and that she used to take down George's rock posters. 20:29, 12 May 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.77.37.48 (talk)

Not a neutral point of view

According to the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, articles about living persons must be

   * Verifiabile
   * Neutral point of view
   * No original research

The following portion of the article is not neutral, or cited, or verifiable. I'm removing it immediately.

  • "He was a fan favourite and one of the most respected of the MuchMusic video jockeys for his musical and political knowledge." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.24.29.189 (talkcontribs)

Probably can put back in with the right citation and the odd tweaking of wording. Did George ever win any rewards at the time or was their any indication of ratings (either for watching the show or fans voting). As far as George's political knowledge, though, agree or disagree with his POV, George does seem to know a certain amount on a wide range of political topics. Moderator, don't delete it from here until someone can tweak it so that it can be put back in. 20:33, 12 May 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.77.37.48 (talk)

Lock Out over

Should the note about the lockout still be there? George is back. The note about his show at CFRB is not connected to any continuing labour issues at CBC. JTBurman 06:24, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. I fixed it. JTBurman 08:32, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

George married ?

Is it true that george gonna be married ?With who?

Well honestly i'm really surprise when i hear this news.

Picture

Get a less ridiculous one please, something a little more serious looking. 207.6.31.119 09:31, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

um, if you can find one...

Alma mater

User:199.126.27.176 changed George's alma mater from Toronto's Humber College to the University of Alberta. Is there anyone who can find a source to confirm or deny this? Flibirigit 18:25, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Two days ago George was given an honourary degree from Humber College. He indeed went to Humber, class of '93 or '94 or somewhere around there for radio broadcasting. During his acceptance speech he also mentioned working as a lizard mascot for his first internship in Kelowna, BC. Sorry, no sources for this.99.227.70.236 (talk) 10:59, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since when is George openly gay?

I'm pretty sure George is not only not gay, but has a long time girlfriend? Anyone else confused by this comment? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lyns84 (talkcontribs) 20:07, 12 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

The claim that George is gay, which was made in this article a few days ago, was clearly vandalism. The user who wrote it has done nothing but vandalize Wikipedia, as one can see on his/her record of contributions. Emile 21:30, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it seems to go well with the fact the George talked about this Wikipedia article last (Monday) night on his show The Hour. Him and a colleage also joked that this article said he liked cats (even though he does), and that he is "a HUGE Ottawa Senators fan", and at that latter point he freaked out, as he actually is a loud and proud Montreal Canadiens fan. -- Reaper X 21:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. It's actually a shame he validated the vandal with that kind of attention, although it did make for a funny bit.Emile 21:43, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I actually believe he was accusing some Wikipedia articles, particularily biography ones, of making ridiculous, unsourced claims. -- Reaper X 21:50, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Magazine tone

I believe this article has lost it's magazine tone, if it had one in the first place, and sounds fairly encyclopedic. I have removed the header. -- Reaper X 21:54, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stroumboulopoulos' brother?

Anyone recall if George has a(n) (older?) brother who used to report for CityTV in Toronto? What's his name again or did i confuse him with someone else with a similar long Greek last name? --Kvasir 02:49, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He doesn't report for City, but the closest I could think of is George Stephanopoulos, it wouldn't be him you are confusing with is it? -- Reaper X 03:45, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, I have heard about Stephanopoulos, though. The one i'm thinking of did night life/cultural event reporting. He looks considerably older than George, in his 30s or near 40s. This was years ago, before George became well-known. --Kvasir 04:40, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it was George himself... says in the article he worked for CityTV before. *shrugs*. --Kvasir 07:48, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Certain other family members are not public figures

They do not warrant mention. Hammer of the year (talk) 02:20, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

George decides what he does and doesn't say about his family on his show. He mentioned his sister in relation to a show she watched and a guest he was interviewing. He mentions his mother a lot. Anything that George doesn't choose to share on his show about his family is private, though. Fifty years from now, someone will want to know what kind of person George was. Seems that George's mother has some things in common with Obama's maternal grandmother (she still does his laundry!). Mary comes up a lot because she reveals aspects of George. 20:44, 12 May 2008 (UTC)~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.77.37.48 (talk)

Nonsense. This is an encyclopedia not a high school yearbook. If it's notable it goes in. We don't have to ask for his permission, we just have to verify that it's true with appropriate citations.154.5.32.113 (talk) 12:30, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio

An IP editor added a section cut-and-pasted from this page to the beginning of the article. I removed it. --Nucleusboy (talk) 01:59, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reads like an advertisement

I've made a few changes because this page read like an advertisement. I've shortened the list of guests to a few examples from politics, Hollywood, Canada and music. This is just part of what I edited out which was probably an addition made by an eager fan or insider on George's show "he Hour is unlike any other program on television. Award-winning, informative and funny. The Hour is a hybrid of news and celebrity and covers everything from politics, pop culture, the environment, human rights, entertainment, sports and more." I don't think there should be much of a problem with the minor changes I've made.Strummingbabe (talk) 03:18, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Loud

I just wanted to point out to those who would be better at researching and articulating the information that there was no mention of George being host of the show Loud on MuchMusic. Flint and Ether (talk) 20:59, 10 October 2009 (UTC)Flint and Ether[reply]

MuchMusic?

Nothing about his history as a MuchMusic VJ? Torvik (talk) 05:14, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rabid anti-conservative bias

Where is the criticism section? This is a personal ad.

I think george is a bit too politically correct to be a neutral type of interviewer, and cozies up to the philosophies of carefully chosen guests - for example giggling indulgently to spike lee while spike was self aggrandizing about his tiff with clint eastwood - he should have pounced on the fact that spike was wasted on something - slurred speech, exaggerated gestures - he looked out of it - but george was just letting spike do a commercial for himself

george is just too cool for school —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.177.159.42 (talk) 04:41, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edge 102

Didn't George Stromboulopoulos host a weeknights show on Edge 102? I think it was called Live in Toronto. I'm pretty sure he worked that gig prior to moving to television on MUCH. I don't know how long he worked there though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.104.85.72 (talk) 19:08, 1 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vegan

Andrea Martin said he looked pretty good for a vegan, on GS's show last night. A Google search shows lots of links for references to GS's veganism. One of the usual editors could add that GS is a vegan to the main article. 68.71.8.51 (talk) 13:28, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
