The Wangs vs. The World and Jade Chang

In the novel, the Wang family fled China and landed in Taiwan, but considered China their true and original home. Coincidentally, the author's family also fled China at around the same time to Taiwan and finally moved to the USA. A family like this would probably consider China as the true home, and there is only one China. It's important to keep this in mind, because sometimes people may just slap on a 'Taiwanese' label on people simply by the place they come. I think descendants of the Hoklo settlers in Taiwan are more likely to identify as "Taiwanese", while Mainlanders who fled the Mainland after the Chinese Civil War may still identify as "Chinese" and support the Blue party for ideological reasons.
