Last appearance

Facu-el Millo, if you have any rationale for asserting that Endgame was not the character’s last appearance, given that the actor has died and it has been confirmed he will not be ‘revived’ with CGI or be recast, then please explain your reasons here. IronManCap (talk) 18:59, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The only thing that isn't a given is the lack of relevance of his appearance in What If, but were a discussion to ensue on which appearance should be categorized at last, then I would side with you. If, for example, Steve Rogers were not to appear in any future film and appeared in What If, I'd be in favor of still including Endgame as his last appearance. —El Millo (talk) 19:33, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"Last" is based on the real-world final appearance of the character, irregardless of it's in-universe placement. Both the MCU versions of T'Challa and Steve Rogers are slated to appear in What If...? so the parameters should be left blank until those episodes air. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:32, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This article is about the character in the MCU. ‘Last appearance’, based on your interpretation, could mean some appearance in a comic, therefore. Endgame is, for all intents and purposes, his last MCU appearance, I would argue. IronManCap (talk) 09:42, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You've interpreted me wrong. I said nothing to that extent. What If...? is an MCU property, and thus, as I said, both T'Challa and Steve Rogers are slated to appear in that, at which point What If...? will be T'Challa's last appearance that is currently known. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:24, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What if... are set in alternative universes and not in the MCU. I would be willing to wait until Black Panther 2 to determine last appearance because they might use archive footage and/or a stunt double to show the character's death. JDDJS (talk to mesee what I've done) 21:06, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
What If is still a Marvel Studios property, using this version of the character, even if it's set in alternate universes, so its still a valid property to use as a last appearance. And that distinction for alternate universe can be discussed in article. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 21:24, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how it can be disputed that What If...? is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as defined in our article on that topic. There is a difference between part of the franchise property and being part of the canon story. BD2412 T 23:50, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so does the same not apply for Steve Rogers (Marvel Cinematic Universe)? IronManCap (talk) 09:12, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. I've removed it there as well given Rogers will be in What If, and Evans will be returning to the role. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:23, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. BD2412 T 16:49, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What If...?

In the section on T'Challa as he appears in What If...?, I believe it is too vague and unhelpful to simply label it as his "alternate version". Indeed, the MCU already has multiple versions of its characters because of time travel and the Blip, so to specify What If...? in the subheader is far more helpful to the average reader. RobotGoggles (talk) 00:26, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Renamed to a more specific header, per my reasoning here. IronManCap (talk) 00:35, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think your reasoning fits here, though. As far as has been confirmed, What If...? explores only one new version of each character. Labelling the section "T'Challa Star-Lord" makes less sense than simply labelling it as "What If...?" RobotGoggles (talk) 00:41, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Per this, there will be more versions of T'Challa featured. I think the best way to go is to name the overall section What If...?, and then add subsections for when we get more variants, somewhat similar to Loki (Marvel Cinematic Universe). IronManCap (talk) 01:15, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed split of Star-Lord T'Challa

Dealmaces has proposed to split Star-Lord T'Challa into a separate article. InfiniteNexus has disputed this effort, asserting that the resulting article fails WP:MCUCHARACTERS. I have reverted a second attempt by Dealmaces to split out this content, and bring the issue here for discussion. For my own part, I am dubious that a character appearing in two episodes of a series can support a separate article, and tend to think that this is still just T'Challa in the MCU. BD2412 T 01:20, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Strongly oppose the split. This character appeared in two episodes in one TV series, and given Boseman's death it's unlikely the character will appear again. Either way, until this character either headlines a project or appears in more than four projects, it fails WP:MCUCHARACTERS, which states: an MCU character warrants its own article after appearing in at least four MCU projects (films and TV series) or being a titular character in such a project. This isn't an original character as Dealmaces claimed, it's just a different version of an already existing character both in the comics and the films, which is T'Challa. —El Millo (talk) 01:26, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per the reasons I listed in my edit summary and El Millo's reasoning above. Star-Lord T'Challa fails WP:MCUCHARACTERS as a non-original character who has only appeared in one TV series, so anything about him should remain on this article. In fact, I think it's unlikely that any What If...? character will warrant their own standalone article in the foreseeable future. InfiniteNexus (talk) 02:27, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Watcher might, after another season or two, since the character has not specifically been identified as Uatu. Not this one, though, nor Party Thor or Black Panther Killmonger. BD2412 T 02:30, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
While inspired by two different characters, T'Challa and Star-Lord, they are original themselves, with no comic book version of them. Dealmaces (talk) 11:38, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The character is not an amalgamation of T'Challa and Peter Quill, though. It is just T'Challa, under a different set of circumstances. BD2412 T 16:46, 18 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
