as Thala Dan and/or Barão de Teffé. Davidships (talk) 15:24, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

After much thought, I resolved to rename the article "Brazilian research ship Barão de Teffé" to "Thala Dan" for the following reasons:

  • it was the name originally given to the ship;
  • the ship has serviced more years under Danish flag (25 years) than under Brazilian flag (20 years);
  • under Danish flag, the ship gave the first part of her name (Thala) to several physical features in Eastern Antarctica: Thala Rock, Thala Island, and Thala Hills;
  • as Thala Dan, the ship was celebrated by 2 stamps issued by the French Southern and Antarctic Lands and by the Australian Antarctic Territory.

Before proceeding to the renaming, I thought it was better to consult the WikiProject Ships, which supported my point of view. Pepys (talk) 19:45, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For ease of reference, that discussion is currently here (until it gets archived). Davidships (talk) 21:19, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
