no one mentions when the club was disbanded...

maybe there are two olb blokes in wigs in some pub near Lichfield? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.157.152 (talk) 19:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Winston Churchill started a club called the Other Club ... because they wouldn't let him into this one Victuallers (talk) 18:55, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Imagemap

I created the imagemap for the painting and then discovered that there was a club and it had this article. This is brilliant as it allows people to click on the background and find a generic article. If anyone has comments on the imagemap that are generic then can they make them below? Victuallers 14:12, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the imagemap down to the members section and displayed it full size since it was hard to discern the faces in the thumb.—Graf Bobby (talk) 05:04, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to say, on the image map the servant can't be Francis Barber because Francis Barber was black (and away a lot). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.159.152.15 (talk) 05:29, 20 July 2010 (UTC) I think you'll find that the servant in the picture is black. Although Reynolds also had a black servant, but I don't know his name. "Away a lot"? I don't think this was painted whilst they all held the pose. It was painted later from other paintings I think. Regions in the map should be moved up and to the left. 89.216.19.52 (talk) 14:32, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi "89". I created this imagemap. When they go wrong then its usually because the image has been cropped or improved. The instructions on how to create or amend these are in the source file or I'm happy to advise. The program I used is quite clever but it has difficulty with modern (ie large) images. Victuallers (talk) 21:41, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the image has been automatically cropped and so the map is a little off. 174.23.132.1 (talk) 02:01, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for leaving that note - I have reset the image and problem is fixed Victuallers (talk) 20:19, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

edmundburke.club

We currently have one claim referenced to https://edmundburke.club/ I see no evidence that this is a reliable source. There's nothing on this site to tell us who is behind the site, whether it really represents the club, or whether the club has any institutional continuity with Samuel Johnson's club. The reference was added on October 7, 2017 by user User:Dubhghall two days after the domain was registered. See edit I intend to remove this reference and the claim depending on it. - Crosbie 16:38, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Blacks Club

The Sunday Times today purports to record as an acknowledged fact that the Club is the same organisation as Blacks Club in Soho. Is that as absurd as it sounds? 45ossington (talk) 22:49, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good spot. The Times having waved its wand of reliability over such a claim could become a problem. This link from the Evening Standard ( Blacks Private Club) explicitly says Blacks was founded in 1992 (which is much more plausible). Weirdly, the preceding paragraph in that Standard piece is a completely irrelevant description of the founding of The [Samuel Johnson] Club. Is it crazy to imagine this is the source for the Times piece, albeit garbled into a conflation of two completely different clubs? - Crosbie 02:49, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
