How about merging this with The Young Sentinels article since that was the original title? Or perhaps deleting it altogether? GeorgeC (talk) 15:14, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is this plausible: 'Astrea' was invented, yet other characters mythical???

I'm unfamiliar with this tv programme, but I thought I'd draw attention to this assertion that 'Astrea' is an invented character operating alongside mythical characters.

Astrea appears to derive*1 from prefix "astro-"/"astra-" with which most people would be familiar. And this is also the linguistic root for prominent goddess 'Ishtar', who corresponds with Isis, Venus, Aphrodite etc.

It's folk philology, I know, but such a direct correspondence to perhaps the most prominent Western goddess does suggest that this character was a version of Her, given that Hercules, Mercury and Anubis apparently are mythically derived.

Anyway, please verify or research further if you're so inclined :)

1: Or even simply be a variant spelling of Astra.
