Name?
This article is wierd. It starts out saying that the USS C-4 was laid down on ..... and then it says that the boat was renamed to C-4. What was it's name before that? And then, the article mentions the Bonita. What Bonita? Could someone please clear this up?85.224.198.207 (talk) 06:18, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, The C-4 was laid down originally as the Bonita and then was renamed the C-4 two years later. Since there is no reason to have an article for each ship name, the article is named after the ships last classification. --Brad (talk) 21:30, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- More questions about the name:
- What is its namesake? Is it named for the Spanish word for "pretty", or a word in another language? After a person or place named "Bonita"? Something else?
- If the answer can be found, it would make sense to add it both here and in the USS Bonita article. In this article, a "Namesake" section would be the place for the explanation. In the list, a "Namesake" section could be added, or the "Note" section renamed "Notes".
- I would assume that subsequent vessels named Bonita were named after the first, but it's inappropriate to write that unless it's documented.
- There were also two vessels with the confusingly similar name USS Bonito.

- I found an answer in the USS Bonita (SSK-3) article, which says that Bonita is named for bonito fishes, without specifying which of the species with that common name is officially the namesake.
- That doesn't answer the question of the namesake of all ships named Bonita (or Bonito), but it's a clue.
