A logical fallacy is an error of reasoning. As stated at WP:CON, Wikipedia editors resolve disputes, whether they be article content, editor behavior, or other issues, by discussion. These discussions often involve debate and reasoning, the ultimate goal of which is to establish consensus among editors towards making a decision which resolves the dispute. The use of logical fallacies in a discussion inhibits or impedes progress towards reaching a consensus agreement, because fallacies distract from the real issue at hand.
