Co-ed groups are vocal groups that include both female and male singers, usually accompanying their performances with choreographies. They can also be known also as mixed gender bands.

From the 90's until the beginning of the 21st century these groups found widespread success, with european groups like A*Teens and S-Club 7 becoming specially notable. In the case of S Club 7, the group was created with a focus on children from 8 to 12 years old, including a Monkees style television format .[1]

In Asia, where the public prefers boy bands and girl groups, there are few groups of this style, the Japanese group of boys and girls AAA being one of the most famous[2]. In South Korea there have been other mixed pop groups but very few have remained active, such as 8Eight and Clazziquai Project. Bands such as Play the Siren, Co-Ed School and Sunny Hill eventually disbanded [3]

In the Spanish-speaking world, one of the first co-ed groups was the spanish band La Pandilla during the 70's. This was followed by the successes of the Spanish band Parchís and later on, in Mexico, the band Timbiriche. [4].

Another common feature of mixed pop groups in Latin America was their association with TV series like RBD (2004).[5]
