Metastatic colon cancer

Metastatic colon cancer is Colon cancer that has metastasized beyond the colon. Colon cancer is a very common malignancy. It most often metastasizes to the liver. Five-year survival in metastatic colon cancer is currently 35-40%.

Treatment

Chemotherapy is commonly used, and is effective, however, surgical resection may be used in cases where there is isolated liver metastasis alone, and has been shown to produce high survival rates.

Prognosis

The prognosis for metastatic colon cancer has recently improved.
