I added the second citation to where the article states that homosexuality was declassified as a mental disorder.

Alfred Charles Kinsey (1894–1956) was a sexologist who founded the Institute for Sex Research, which is now known as the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction. His explorations into different sexual practices originated from his study of the variations in mating practices among wasps. He developed the Kinsey Scale, which measures sexual orientation in ranges from 0 to 6 with 0 being exclusively heterosexual and 6 being exclusively homosexual. His findings indicated that there was great variability in sexual orientations. Kinsey published the books Sexual Behavior in the Human Male and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female, which brought him a lot of fame and controversy. Alfred Charles Kinsey was considered controversial because he would not report sex criminals (someone who engage in acts such as rape or sexual abuse that is identified as inimical to public safety and decency) to the authorities after he interviewed them. [1] The most controversial interview Kinsey did was with an individual who had sexual encounters with animals, boys, girls, women, men, and family members. [1]Kinsey interviewed Rex King a 60-year-old pedophile who tried to bring orgasms to boys ages 2 months to 15 years old. [2]He failed to report this man to the authorities and tampered with data making it seem like this information came from multiple sources and not just one man. [1]The prevailing approach to homosexuality at the time was to pathologize and attempt to change homosexuals. Kinsey's book demonstrated that homosexuality was more common than was assumed, suggesting that these behaviors are normal and part of a continuum of sexual behaviors.

(Maybe turn my controversy information to a subsection for Kinsey)

One of my classmates (Layladye) suggested that I had what exactly a sex criminal was, so I went back in and added the definition. DET313205 also suggest I move the information I added regarding Kinsey being controversial to a subsection and I think I will so the information can flow better. Another person (seganey) suggested an article for me to look at when adding my section about mental health among lgbtq+ people of color which I already added to my reference list to use later. Mitchellweed thought it might be good to add the "born this way" movement to the section about Havelock Ellis but I'm not sure if I want to add if I did decide to do it, I think it should be it's on section to counter act what Ellis thought. JessDeckk thought that the causes section would be good to give a little more background which is a good decision that I will consider.

Transgender Issues

Often when people talk about lgbtq+ members they rarely speak on transgender issues. Transgender people face the most hardship out of the other members who identify as lgbtq+. 72% of homicides of lgbtq+ members are people who identify as transgender[3]. Transgender youth have reported that they are not allowed to use the restroom they feel comfortable in at school[3]. A staggering 90% of transgender individuals have reported that they have faced some type of mistreatment in the workplace[3]. Whenever people mention lgbtq they say it as an umbrella term. Although the same rights are not granted to each person who identifies this way. Transgender men and women face more discrimination and hardship, and it is often not recognized.

LGBTQ+ people of color

Being a person of color and a member of the lgbtq+ can be challenging. Both are considered minority groups causing them to face a great deal of oppression. In a survey it was founded that people of color are more likely to be apart of the lgbtq+ community. [4] Even though the numbers are high people of color face the most discrimination and are underrepresented in the lgbtq+ movement. When applying for jobs it has been reported that 32% of people of color lgbtq+ people have been discriminated against because of sexuality while only 13% of white people have had this problem. [5] People of color are underrepresented in the media specifically television when they address the lgbtq+ community you usually see white men portray homosexual relationships on television. [4] Although people of color are a major part of the lgbtq+ they are often discriminated against the most.

Instructor Feedback: This is an interesting and appropriate proposed edit. I would inquire what you mean by a sex criminal? More explicitly would this be, individuals who reported they had committed crimes of a sexual nature. I think you might need to be more explicit. Back when he did his research, homosexuality was a sex crime. Is that what this means? Or is it referring to violent sex crimes? I look forward to seeing/reading more of your edits within this article!
