Born on 8th October 2000, Kalenda Racheal is a Ugandan computer scientist with a passion for technology. She is a self-motivated lady, versatile with multiple skills such as creativity, team collaboration, and effective communication. She has worked on impressive projects on Github in web design, and mobile design. She is also great at problem-solving with a good attitude towards learning and improving.
Education:
Rachel has always had a passion for learning and curious nature, which is evident in her pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BCSC) at Makerere University. Despite facing adversity due to the limitations imposed on women in the technology field, she excelled academically. While at the University she worked on various projects and most as a developer and project lead. She has always sought knowledge, as evidenced by her certifications in the Psychology of Positive Thinking, Counseling, and the Psychology of Relationships. Furthermore, she worked on a classmate project at Resilient Africa Network, Makerere University School of public health that involved creating online learning content for students.
Career:
While at the university, Rachel served as deputy disciplinary minister, was in charge of the welfare mentorship club, and was project lead for the Google Solutions challenge through the Google developer students club (GDSC) 2022. She was able to get a Google developer badge Additionally, she served as a project lead, user experience designer, and programmer for a Mental Health Tracker app [1] addressing depression and anxiety. She is currently working on an AI project involving machine learning and deep learning to detect shoplifters in real-time.
She is also a support engineer for ClinicMaster INTERNATIONAL, a software company providing solutions for hospitals and clinics in East Africa and across Africa. Racheal is also a research advocate with changing technology as the company advance to DevOps, involving the Linux operating system and the use of scripts to automate operations on the server.
Other Considerations:
She has also actively participated in tech events which include Google IO Extended Kampala, Andela developer conference 2019, and the Women in Technology Uganda (WITU) hackathon.
She has also expressed interest in literature where she wrote a blog post about a lady of integrity
