Aerial awareness: is a training term used for an action sports athlete, primarily a snowboard rider wanting to learn and practice rotations in the air with more confidence and skill. Action sports athletes such as freestyle snowboarders, surfers, skateboarders and wakeboarders are looking to gain confidence and increase their spatial awareness, boost confidence and gain a completive edge. Trampolines have long been used to practice airborne tricks with skis or snowboards. But until the invention of the flexible footboard for aerial maneuvers by Christopher T. Kane, users who wanted to practice tricks on a trampoline were limited to home made training devices that were often rigid with razor sharp edges and dangerous. One new example of a training apparatus for practice and aerial awareness training is a trampoline board, called Pro-Bounceboard or Classic Bounceboard® which is an elastic foam footboard to be used on a trampoline. Learning to position ones body before, during and after a trick or rotation takes practice. To progress at free style riding, Woodward at Copper Mountain training facility utilizes a Bounceboard for training their athletes. Red Bull aerial awareness coaches utilize the Bounceboard for training world class surfers and riders. Practicing moves before hitting the snow at the terrain park, water or pavement, helps builds muscle memory. Practice prepares athletes mentally for mastering gravity defying tricks outside the training arena. Practice increases the athlete’s skill level and gives them a competitive edge.
