reply in an already-archived post

Hey, Apapoc! You responded to an already-archived post, so I'm coming here to reply.

You wrote:

Thanks for your advice. I am unsure about the "disclose your identity" portion. Isn't it meant to let people know who you are and who they write an article about? You have written about chefs and had their articles published, what were those chefs feedback on their identity being disclosed? (I have been sick until now so sorry for the late reply.) Allpeoplearepeopleofcolor (talk) 12:08 pm, Today (UTC−5)

The only reason to tell us who you are is so we can tell you whether you're notable enough to have an article. That is literally all we're trying to figure out. We don't really care that you are who you say you are, even. You could have come in and said, "I want to write an article about a famous person I know" and we'd have just asked, "Who is the person?"

None of the chefs I've written about came into Teahouse looking for someone to write an article about them, so they never had to tell us who they were. I simply realized a particular person was likely notable, did the research, and wrote the article. I think it sometimes happens that someone comes into Teahouse to ask about creating an article about themselves or someone they knew, and it turns out the person is indeed notable, but that's pretty unusual. It is most common when the notable person is from a non-English speaking country, and in particular from countries where English is not a major second language.

If you would prefer not to publicly disclose but would be willing to do so privately, you can email me from my user talk page and provide three (and please only three, so choose three that are significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of you) and I'll take a look. It's quite likely I won't be interested in creating the article, as I'm pretty picky about that, but I can at least tell you if you're notable enough. You also asked at teahouse

From Google translate: Is it possible to write the Wiki page of the person involved? How difficult is it? You know yourself best, but why does Wikipedia worry about the parties involved not being objective and would rather grant editing rights to non-involved persons? Thanks.

So, you're asking several things:

  1. Yes, it's possible to write an article about yourself.
  2. It's very difficult to do so because you can't be objective about yourself.
  3. We prefer someone who doesn't know you write the article about you because they can be objective.
  4. We prefer people who can be objective because they'll write about both the good and the bad and do it in a neutral fashion.
